Christmas is full of traditions, some I subscribe to but most I don’t. Over the years we have created our own Christmas Day traditions, like trifle for breakfast, clinkers and a milo, a colourful tree, a stroll on the beach and a Hi 5 cd blaring carols to wake the family…even though the boys are now 18 and 21. Another tradition that harks back to childhood is a new dress for Christmas Day. A stylish Christmas day tradition 🙂
You know the kind, usually white with touches of red or green (sorry to my red/green colourblind Huz), teamed with fresh hair and a summer glow. Come at me Christmas!
I’m not talking a ‘theme’ dress that could have me being mistaken for Mrs Claus and there’s no novelty earrings…totally cool with you doing it if makes you feel merry and bright. It’s more about having a special fresh new dress to celebrate the big day, kinda like a present to myself.
The festive shopping season sees me gifting far too many ‘presents to myself’, I’m a sucker for the fancy packaging and gift sets. I mean, did I actually need four new lip glosses? Probably not, but look at this packaging (and the price was ace too).
From time to time the team at Adrift offer for me to choose a few pieces from their range (thanks team) and when I spied this *Bombay maxi dress I just knew it would be perfect for Christmas Day. I immediately saw myself in this dress dancing to carols, strolling barefoot on the beach, tucking into a BBQ lunch and then curling up on the couch late afternoon with a movie and a full belly.
The white is fresh and summery, it’s floaty and cool to wear and the beaded trim is a nice nod to the festive season. Best of all, I don’t even need to iron it✔️ This dress is available in sizes 8-18
Tell me, do you buy a new dress for Christmas Day? What are your Christmas traditions?
Til next time,
Jen X

I’m one of those crazy people that wear novelty earrings and Christmas t shirts! I’m a crazy Christmas elf! Not only is it tshirts and earrings, its phone covers, hand bags, socks, pjs and so the list goes on! I have a thing for Christmas trees so might have a forest! Plus I take the Christmas craziness to the office! There is a Christmas playlist on my phone with some 300 plus songs!
Haha Cindy, it’s fantastic that you have the chrissy spirit. Enjoy your day xx
We’ve always had a new XMAS dress and I have continued the tradition with my children..love it
It’s a nice tradition to have, can’t wait to see a pic of your dress x
Hi Jen, love that dress!! I DID think about buying something new for this year!
Our traditions include having champagne soaked strawberries for breakfast on Christmas morning with my mum, Christmas pudding for dinner (usually because we’re too full to have it after lunch!) and lots of fairy lights inside! Most of the traditions seem to be for Boxing Day though – we have ham and eggs on the bbq for breakfast, go for a walk late morning and then for some reason over the last few years I make scones on Boxing Day! Not sure how that started!! Oh, and there HAS to be some of my mum’s peppermint slice at Christmas time – yum!
Merry Christmas!!
Jodes x
Lots of yummy traditions there…enjoy.
My little family always have new clothes or pieces for xmas day. For me it used to be a dress but having a young son means i usually end up in the afternoon on the loungeroom floor building something with him or in the park kicking the footy so it became very unladylike. Glad you a week of shorts last week! Gave me some great ideas.
Enjoy xmas with your little one, they make the day more magical.
That is so cool, you have your own mini coloured baubles on your dress! How sheer is it?
I know right ☺not sheer, it has a lining.
I’m also a sucker for Christmas packaging, always have been. I bought the lippy and gloss sets after you posted. I just love the little drawers. You were blogging when i bought them at DJ’s ?. When my girls were younger one of our traditions was new pj’s xmas eve all fresh for the xmas day pressie unwrapping.
Oh yes Lorna the girls said someone popped in from the community. I was busy doing good the live video. Enjoy your glosses

Oh you look so boho and fresh, I love it! I’m still yet to buy my Christmas Day dress, I should really get on that!
Thanks Caitlyn, can’t wait to see your frock
I love a new dress for Christmas … but then I love a new dress for every occasion! This one is perfect Jen … and I can’t believe I am saying this … but the first thing I thought of was that your pom pom sandals will go perfectly with the beading on this dress! We have a number of traditions .. one is a new board game under the tree addressed to “the family”. After lunch, the table is cleared, the nibbles come out and – Let the Games begin !! Always made more interesting and often funnier as the wine bottles get emptier.
While I am here, I wish you, “hubby” and the boys an amazing Christmas filled with love, laughter and happiness! May you continue to grow and achieve in 2017 as awesomely as you have in 2016. And we really should try and fit in a sneaky coffee (or G&T) next year … it has been such a very long time ! xoxo
Oh yes the sandals would be perfect!!
I love it – very summery and no worries about getting crumpled while you’re curled up on the sofa! I usually wear something red – I used to choose everyone’s Christmas Day clothes so we all looked cohesive for photos. That tradition died out a few years ago, as did the kids opening pressies in their pj’s with bed hair and shaking with excitement. Now I have to almost drag them out of bed and then they want to have showers, get dressed and make sure their hair is “right” before we can begin the pressie opening ceremony. This will be our first Chrissie at home for a few years (we usually travel or go away camping) and it’s also going to be our first Christmas in our new home (probably surrounded by boxes as we move in on the 20th).
When kids grow up xmas loses some of its magic, I’m trying hard to create new ways for us all to enjoy xmas. Enjoy your new home, maybe the elves will unpack ☺
Hi-5 Christmas, yes, it’s not Christmas until we have danced around a bit to Santa wear your shorts! Love the dress too!
Fun times Narelle
I love Christmas and do everything to the extreme … decorations in living areas 3 trees 2 inside and one outside, different colours one traditional and this year the others are Tiffany blue and white I love including beautiful lights all over the place. a new Christmas outfit (or two) is a must and buying thought out presents for family and wrapping them. We have a Christmas party to catch up with friends the weekend before Christmas every year, i think friends look forward to it now. Merry Christmas , Katie x
You have the xmas fever Katie ☺☺

Thanks Maxine, a white dress is always a winner for me.
Ooh I love this dress, I need to invest in some adrift.
I have been wearing the same long Camilla kaftan for last three years, will again this Christmas Day , I love it so much, it’s bright blues with zebra print and everyone knows the festivities have started when I rock up in it!
My adult daughters however, get a new outfit paid for every year courtesy of their generous grandma which is just as lovely.
