Shapewear, something I’ve avoided until recently. It just conjures up visions of being squeezed into vice like underwear with rolls of fat puffing up and out everywhere that they shouldn’t be.
Late in 2014 I tried a ‘Runway Slip’ from Bella Bodies Australia and I gotta say I was pretty impressed! It totally changed my thinking on shapewear. Then Michel from Bella Bodies Australia contacted me and kindly wanted to send me her new *bamboo bra crop top and a few extra goodies…yay!
Now before I start let me fill you all in, my boobs aren’t like regular boobs…what are ‘regular’ boobs anyway? LOL. Cancer took my boobs, yeah that cow cancer took them forever! For a while I had one boob then none and then the clever plastic surgeons made me new Foobs ( fake boobs) using tissue, skin and major muscles from my back.
Two surgeries so far with nipples to come this year…uhuh I ain’t got no nips! Sooo, when you see my boobs in a bra, and they look a little lopsided or one is rounder than the other, please remember what I went through to get these babies, they aren’t like my old boobs but I’m so freakin grateful for them.
You see without boobs something was missing (err derrr), my clothes didn’t sit right, I was conscious of what I could and couldn’t wear…people stared and whispered. It was kinda like being fat, I can say that because I’ve been kinda fat and reaallllly fat! When your body is different it can change how we and others view ourselves. It’s not right but it happens. That’s why we create our own personal style, it’s about putting our best foot forward.
Since my first mastectomy in October 2012 I’ve been on the hunt for the perfect crop bra. I’m not asking for much, I want comfort, breathability, a good price (although truthfully I’d bloody sell my kid for the right one), I want it to go past a size 14! Yeah what’s with that? Why do some lingerie (and sportswear) labels think bigger girls don’t deserve nice things? Get off your high horses cause we rock and we have money to spend!
I’ve bought waaaay too many crop style bras over past 2 years and ditched most of them. They are either constrictive (remember I’ve had 7 surgeries all up so have nerve and muscle pain), they ride up, give me a uni-boob, don’t support or are just really hot, like furnace hot!
I’ve tried this style in other brands and paid anywhere from $10-$60 to do so and most leave my chest bright red not allowing it to breathe so when Michel said she had a bamboo one I couldn’t say “yes please” quick enough! I have bamboo sheets and the mister wears bamboo socks because of its cooling properties and it’s just so soft against the skin.
I’ve road tested this bamboo bra a bit, wore it to yoga, out to lunch, even did the house work in it and most importantly slept in it. Yeah I slept in it because my implants are heavy and drag on my still healing Foobs so I need to feel supported while I sleep. I’ve tried it with the cup inserts and without and this bra top gets my big tick. I’ve purchased a similar style from Bella Bodies Australia with adjustable straps and I like that one too.
This crop bra is comfortable and has plenty of support with tank top style straps (non adjustable), doesn’t roll or ride up and covers all my scars. you could easily wear it as an everyday underwire free bra or as a lounge bra. For the purpose of the pics I removed the padded inserts for most pics. I’m wearing ‘voluptuous’ and normally wear an 18D bra, sometimes a C cup.
Voluptuous, there’s a word I didn’t think I would hear again LOL 🙂
I’m not sure how much support this bra top would give ladies with even bigger breasts but it does go up to an E,F & G, maybe just drop Michel an enquiry because the lady knows her product. For me it gave plenty of support and kept my girls in place, even at yoga! It’s available in Taupe, Black, White and Aqua.
You know what I really, really want, a pretty lace crop style bra. I do, I really do! I’ve seen them in small sizes but again nothing past a size 14, well Bonds do a 16 but I’ve tried it and yeah, no, doesn’t even come close! Here’s the thing, my boobs are scarred with no nipples so I NEED something pretty…especially when getting sexy with the mister. Uh huh…sex after a mastectomy….now there’s a whole other blog post, I might just go there. Stay tuned!
Til next time,
