There’s no doubt about it, colour rocks my world. In the summer-time the Queenslander in me breaks free and I am ALL about colour and lots of it, but come the cooler months and something changes. Well, the weather changes (of course) but my wardrobe also changes. There’s more black clothes and I aint gonna apologise for it.
You see, some folks might say that black is boring (boo) or that its aging or lifeless…pffft! I’m here to say that the colour black has long been a strong player in wardrobes all over the world for like ever and was making women look sophisticated and badass long before chartreuse or poppie….I mean, what even are those colours and are they even in your wardrobe? I bet they’re not, am I right ladies?
Black clothes can be timeless, chic, classic, glam a little bit rock chic and let’s not forget minimalist, something for everyone. You only need to venture onto the streets of New York and Melbourne to see how damned stylish an all black outfit can be. If you’re going to wear black, especially all black then there’s a few tips that might help you nail the look.
Wearing black clothes is all about balance.
When layering in all black you don’t want to look an overstuffed olive so remember to layer smart. No doubt as the day progresses you will peel off a few layers so make sure that you will be happy to be seen in each layer and more importantly, that you will feel fabulous in each layer. To create some shape and definition make the first piece you add the most fitted piece and if you like you can always cinch in a waist with a tie or belt over an outer jacket.
Have fun with fabrics and textures.
A little bit of texture can make a big difference. If you’re wearing an all black ensemble then think about choosing pieces with:
–fur (faux)
–suede
–quilting
–leather/pleather
–fringing
–rips
–sheer
–tulle
Colour can come from unexpected places
If you want to add some colour to your black outfit then add pops of colour with some shoes, bags or even a tee. Let’s not forget makeup too, a pop of bright red lippy or some rock star eye makeup can really pull a look together.
Change your look with a few key pieces
Accessories have magical powers,oh yes they do! Adding a statement necklace can add some ‘wham bam’ to your outfit while a scarf can inject texture and colour and some crazy earrings can be just the thing to let your personality shine when going minimalist.

Hi Jenni is the Sara Ezibuy jacket regular sizing or generous like City Chic sizing?
Some great pieces here. I wear something black every day.
Black is my go-to colour especially if it has a spot or a stripe! Love these picks – I’d love one of everything!
