You know I love activewear and when City Chic offered to send me a few pieces from their newly released CCX range to road test I was all in. I jumped online, punched in my choices and sat back to wait for the postie. He came, we chatted and the dog went crazy at his high viz vest, as usual. Man, my postie is so patient and lovely, hi 5 to all the posties and delivery dudes out there.
I love colour in activewear, in fact it’s pretty much mandatory in my workouts. I wish plus size active wear would get the memo and do more of it….make it ALL about the colour, and print. Yup, I love pattern and print too!
When I ripped open my parcel I was bummed there wasn’t more colour, a little panel here and there but for me it wasn’t enough. Of course if you are new to colour in activewear it may be perfect 🙂
THE PANTS
The 3/4 pants are a great fit although I’m 5ft7 and the pants were more like full length on me. The high waistband means I felt supported and I said goodbye to the muffin top. The waistband also had a concealed front pocket and zip rear pocket with added drawstring waist for a more ‘personalised fit’.
The best news was they passed the ‘yoga test’, if pants pass the yoga test then they are winners in my book. There’s lots of bending in yoga so if my pants stay put and don’t continually roll down I’m super happy. The City Chic pants stayed put! The only downside for the pants was the weight, they are thick and a little heavy which would be perfect in the cooler months but at the height of summer they were a little too hot.
Style kudos for the mesh panel on the side of the calf and blue insert, YAY for colour! Find the pants *HERE
BRA
I can’t even. Yes I was sent an underwire sports bra and no I won’t recommend it. Sorry, I have to be honest and this bra did things to my boobs that were a crime against the girls. Massive spillage, didn’t sit flat in the centre, the shortest underwire I have EVER seen in a bra…list goes on. Yes I was in the correct size and sorry, no thumbs up from me.
ZIP FRONT TANK TOP
Back in the 80’s I was rocking an electric blue zip front, high cut, full piece pair of togs. I loved those togs hard and thought I could easily audition for a Roxette video clip, I felt so hot in them. Cue the return of the zip front, in activewear. Well played City Chic, well played. It’s fun, has colour and when a girl wants to pop a little cleavage (or not) the zip front comes into it’s own. You know what would have been cool?…a coloured zip 🙂
The length was a little long for me and I would have liked wider straps but the zip made up for that. Note this is a fitted style. Find the zip front top *HERE.
The City Chic Activewear range is available in sizes XS – XXL (14 – 24)
til next time,
Jen

Bugger! I wanted these to be good. I’m only 5’2 so they’d be too long on me and being in Qld they’d be too hot. Running Bare will remain my choice for now.
I wanted them to tick all boxes too Bec, sad that they didn’t.
Great to see an unbiased opinion especially on the Sports Bra funnily enough the best sports Bra I’ve come across was from good old Target.
Thanks Jacki, I like to be a cheerleader but honesty counts. Sports bras can be tricky…heck shopping for any bra can be tricky.
The lack of colour for you is a negative for me a big positive – black al the way!!!!
I know , for you it’s black, black and more black ?
You know who has good gear for yoga at the moment? Cotton On Body. I know, I didn’t believe it either. And lasting ok too.
I have had some good feedback about their tights, unfortunately not in my size.
Oh wish they’d been better. I’m only 5’2 so pants would be too long on me I think. Really would love a great yoga top that finds that line between fitting and skimming
I wish that too! You’re so right on the balance between fitted and skimming, when you’re doing exercise you need to be able to twist and bend but also not fall out of your top.
I thought they might do more colour but maybe in their second release. Just sticking with classic black to start with. They’re not normally shy on colour. The fitted top surprised me. Hoped they would have a looser fitting style. I’ll keep my eyes open for what else pops up next new release but think these will be of those things I need to see in store (3 hours away) rather than just buy online. Thanks for the review
I wish it ticked more boxes Sophie.
I love the way you write…very entertaining
Thanks Angela, I write as I speak x
Oh shame about those pants, they’d probably be dragging on the floor on little ‘ole vertically challenged me! I love me a Berlei sports bra, if it’s good enough for Serena, it’s good enough for me! I’m happy in black with a splash of colour but I don’t like anything fitted. No siree! Thanks for an honest and unbiased review – it’s so helpful when you’re buying online!
You’re welcome Sammie x
