No matter where you are in Oz, it’s pretty darn hot out there right now! In fact we sweated through five days in a row above 40 degrees last week and it’s on again like donkey long this week. I know it’s summer and all but those temps are ridonculous! If you’re working up a sweat just thinking about it, do not fear! Together we can beat the heat with my tips and tricks to keep your cool!
Keep hydrated!
Drink lots of water! I know it’s a no brainer but I always forget to drink enough water. I live in Adelaide and the heat is dry, it kinda sneaks up on you and before I know it I am gagging for water. You can also cool your body temperature by eating fruit that naturally contains water, like yummy watermelon, even better try frozen grapes or melon! If you can resist it, avoid caffeine it’s totally dehydrating. Bummer I know….
Wear breathable fabrics & light colours
It’s not a myth, darker colours absorb more heat, so dust off that white dress & purchase a few summer frocks in linen, bamboo or comfy cottons.
Dress for the heat in these beauties: Taking Shape Affogato Dress (12-24), Kennedy’s It’s All About the Zip Dress (S-XXL), Adrift Carnival Dress in Blue Garden (2XL-4XL)
Turn to nature to cool down
Peppermint tea is not only delicious to drink to settle my tum after a big meal but it’s also delish on ice. But put some in a spray bottle and you’ve got yourself a refreshingly cool face mist! You can also add a drop of quality peppermint oil to a cold wet flannel and dab away!
Find some air con
I cannot live without aircon and a few years ago we replaced our clunker ducted system with refrigerative ducted air con and it’s the business! If you don’t have air con or it’s struggling in the high temps then get outta the house and seek relief. Head where the aircon is cranking, like shopping centres, a cinema, a mates house or get some culture by visiting your city’s Museum or Art Gallery.
Hit the beach
Australia has some of the most beautiful & accessible beaches in the world! Hit up your local. Take a refreshing dip, sit on a towel in the sand & people watch, go for a stroll- paddle your toes! Just being by the sea will cool you down & lift your spirits!
Get your cossies on! I love these : Taking Shape Palmina Bikini (12-24), City Chic Antigua One Piece (14-22), Curvy Swimwear Black Bat Wing One Piece (14-26)
Indulge in something cold
Shout yourself an ice-cream, go on, you deserve it! If ice cream isn’t for you then try a smoothie, fresh juice or acai bowl.
Water parks for the win
Not near the beach? Your local pool is just as great! If you’re the adventurous kind – what about your local water park? Don’t be shy, get back out on those water slides with your kids, or borrow someone else’s for a fun day out!
Still enjoy getting out into nature
Find some shady walking trails & go for a leisurely stroll in our great outdoors. If you can find somewhere that ends in a refreshing dip in a river or lake then even better!
If that sounds like way too much work, how about a yummy cocktail at an outdoor bar? Find one with an ocean breeze & pretend you’re somewhere tropical.
Even better whip up a jug of something spesh at home and invite some friends over…or if a friend has a pool then head their way!
Adairs Tropical Fresco Cushion, Sunnylife Lovers Picnic Set, Adorne Elle Pink Sunglasses, Sunnylife Islabomba Picnic Blanket, KMart Acrylic Tumblers, Blue Bungalow Love Melon Tote
A late arvo picnic in the park will make the most of a cooler time of day, get you some fresh air (and an excuse to pack some super cute picnic accessories!). I’m loving all the summer vibes with these perfect picnic pieces, and now I totally want that neon tote!
Wear a dress and don’t fear ‘chub rub’
Defy Chub Rub! When it’s hot there’s a few ways to help beat that heat rash that inevitably happens between the thighs, I like to use Calmme Cream, it’s a lifesaver & you can buy it HERE.
Taking Shape Sunset Mix Coverup (S-L), Bohemian Traders Cord Neck Mini Dress (XXS-4XL), (Frankie & Dash Rickrack Cave Dress (6-20), Katies Sleeveless Crochet Shift Dress (8-20)
If all else fails, wait until the sun goes down & make the most of the balmy nights with a trip to your local Twilight markets for some dinner, a little shopping & a wander.
There are four seasons in a year and sure as shit in a few months time we will be wishing for warm days again so implement the tips and enjoy these Summer days.
Til next time,
Jen x
Love all your tips. Right now, with kids on school holidays, having home days in the air con has been a way to escape the heat. The kids have been playing late in the arvo outside at 5pm when it’s a bit cooler.
I really love that Watermelon Tote too. Fab find.
