When I was 15 I had a part time job in a little boutique on Mt Tamborine (the only clothing shop in town), I would earn $16 on a Saturday and saved for a month for a pair of denim jeans and that was with discount!
Yep they were jeans with multiple pockets, a few zips and a very cool 80’s wash and this country girl felt like she had it all over her city friends when she wore them…I had swag! I think I only ever wore denim jeans again when I had small boys and after I had finished chemo. Uhuh, 15, 25 and 42. I just never felt comfortable in them and was crap at styling them. These days I guess you could say I’m now (finally) comfortable enough in my own skin to wear jeans, I love them and experiment with colour and styles whenever I can. I quite like a boyfriend but I love a skinny leg. They suit my frame and make my legs look way better than they really are.
Kerry from Harlow just sent me these dark blue ‘Jean Genies’ and I had them on in a flash. Well I wiggled for a bit and then lay on the bed to zip them up. When I stood up my legs and arse felt amazing but I had a muffin top that looked more like the whole sponge cake!
I didn’t despair, I’d read about buying denim tight so knew I had the right size, I just needed to let this denim settle in to my curves. I grabbed my Camyz shaper tank, popped it on and then pulled the jeans up…perfect. As I spent a couple of hours in the denim it just got better and the waistband loosened. I have a tendency to want to pull jeans ‘up and over’ my tum which let’s face it ain’t a great look…just ‘feels’ comfy. These jeans are mid to high rise so they actually sit just under my belly button, takes a bit of getting used to for me but after a while they felt natural.
There’s stretch in these jeans but not so overly stretchy that they will lose their shape after a few hours, just enough for comfort while still retaining shape. Did you know its best to wash your denim inside out? It’s also best to wash them as little as possible instead wipe them down with a damp flannel or baby wipe. These jeans even arrived with care tips and a cute quote tucked into the pocket…nice touch.
I’m looking forward to styling these jeans up over the coming months but for now I’ve teamed them with a tee, boots and long line vest. I kept it simple with the boots and vest in my hair colour, a little shimmer with my Ruby and Lilli tee and cuffed the jeans to add my stamp on the outfit. Have fun with cuffing! What about you, do you have a fave pair of jeans? Or are you more like me, a late bloomer in the jeans department? What’s your top tip tips when it comes to jeans?
Til next time,
Jen x
These denim jeans were a Thankyou gift from Harlow but I often get questions about jeans so when I find a pair that I will wear and recommend I share. Find the Jean Genies jeans HERE. Available in size 12-24.
Omg Jenni. I love this on you. You look awesome. The tee is my fav. I buy all my Jeans at Jeanswest. I buy the curve embracer. My fav at the moment are my light wash ones with holes in them. I cuff them often and wear them with my Vans. My tip like i have said is i rarely wash them. I dont hang them outside. I wash them inside out and never iron them. The tighter they are the better as they well and truly stretch. I also.love the look of Jeans with wedges and a Kimono. Keep on rocking it Jen. Your amazing with your styling knowledge. Im in awe. Xxoo
Thanks Jane, you always look fab in your jeans.
Oh thank you. That is a real compliment. Xo
You look fabulous!! Rocking those jeans and boots, and I
Love the tee, where did you get that?
xoxo
Hi Belinda it’s from Ruby and Lilli, the link is at the bottom of the post x
“Way better than they really are.” Oh my, I’m always looking at your pictures enviously thinking you’ve got great legs. I love a good dark denim skinny leg for dressing up with my hippy fringe kimono and a pair of sandals but nothing beats a lazy boy leg and comfy top for lolling around on the weekend. Top it with a loose bun and canvas slides and I am set for anything!!
Love this look Jen.
Amanda they are both great denim looks, you’ve got it sorted! I need to go on the hunt for a fringed kimono, I like the sound of that with denim.
Big W. Have the Kimonos.. There Catalogue at the moment is awesome also Cotton On too.
Thanks for the tip Jane x
You look fab! And your bum is all kind of amazing… You know you’ve found a good pair of jeans when they fit your behind that well 😉 ha ha. Love the entire look! Xx
Thanks Rachael, they feel great and I’m sure will get loads of wear in coming months x
You certainly look like a rock star in the jeans. What a way to go ! Are they your usual size I haven’t bought stretch jeans as I never know about sizing. But I love wearing jeans rock on cooler weather!!
Thanks Maggie, I dont really have a size at the moment. I’m a bit of an inbetweenie sitting at a 16-18…you know how it goes with so much variation in sizing with different labels. I actually purchased a 14 last week from SEED! I would say choose your regular size, Kerry put lots of work into these jeans so she knows them back to front, drop her a message if you have any queries xx
woohoo…. you really are rocking that demin there girl, looks absolutley awesome on you. LOVE the “whole” outfit – go out & take on the world 🙂
Oh thanks lovely Sharyn, so nice x
Gee Jen.. this pair of jeans look fab on you along with the skinny leg and cuffed with boots. Would never have thought to wear them like that. Alas skinny legs I cannot do as my legs are so thick so stick to my bootleg to balance out my heavy frame. In the past my fave jeans have been from K&K in New Zealand which seem to fit just right. Whenever I buy another brand I have to turn over the waistband as they are too high.
Oh wow Fay wouldn’t it be fab if you could find some jeans locally, I spose when you’re onto a good thing stick to it x
Stunning Jen. Love the pm on you and I love the tips – I didn’t know them.
Thanks Kirrily, you look great in jeans…I reckon these would look fab on you x
You look ace. I buy all my jeans from Dorothy Perkins in the UK because they do short lengths which are perfect for vertically challenged people like me. These days I prefer jeggings, also from DP, I know it’s cheating but they’re much lighter and so much more comfy! Dorothy Perkins go up to size 22 I think and they deliver down under (if you buy at the right time, you can sometimes get international delivery for free!)
I recently picked up some jeggings from SUSSAN, they’ve come a long way since they first hit the stores. Thanks for the DP tip Sam I’ll check it out x
Hi Jenni, I just read about you on Ms Mystery Case! Looking forward to your can do style and spunk! Plus, I’m a curvy girl too!
The only bummer is I’m in the US! 🙁 May not be able to get the brands you gals have there, but I’m still looking for the style factor and maybe I can find stuff here that’s similar. 🙂
Have a great day!
Hi Mary and welcome, well that’s pretty exciting having a US reader
