We all know how much I adore fresh flowers, yeah I’m totally crap at gardening but would spend my last dollars on some pretty blooms and a good long black. I love nothing more than a bountiful bunch of blooms, HUGE…but I don’t need a ‘big floral display’ to make me happy.
My heart sings with just a single bloom. Yup, pop a stem in a bottle or jar and I’m a happy girl.
Recently my friend Nic popped around with a HUGE arrangement, it helps that Nic also owns The Blu Tulip Florist (where I buy my blooms) so she has gorgeous flowers at her fingertips. We caught up for a cuppa and a baby cuddle (hers not mine) and when she left I got busy creating floral displays for all over my home.
How nice is it to walk into a room and see flowers? They work kinda like perfume does for me, you know when you catch a whiff of a scent and you’re instantly transported back to a moment in time…that’s what flowers do for me.
Certain blooms can transport me back to a moment in time where I linger in the memory.
Flowers are full of life and are just the perfect distraction for visitors, you know they won’t be looking at your dirty floors when they pop by, instead they will be captivated by your pretty flowers.
Now while I pulled the large bouquet apart I still kept the essence of the huge arrangement that Nic gave me, but I thinned it out a little and created some ‘extra’ little displays for my kitchen and dining area.
If it’s water tight you can use it as a vase, get creative and match your flowers to the the vessel. I love white and pink old world blooms so tend to use a jar, jug or a teacup but try anything.
Flowers don’t like to be sat under heating and cooling so watch where you place them. Change the water daily or at least every second day and make sure you remove all foliage that would sit under the water line. Leaving foliage in the water encourages bacteria and will see your blooms wilt quick. I also snip the stems a little when I change the water to encourage the flowers to take a drink.
Pick off dying buds and brown foliage and don’t be afraid to add a little foliage from your garden to bulk out a few blooms. Wether it’s a lovely large arrangement or just a few buds in a milk bottle have fun with blooms because trust me they will make you smile and bring beauty to your home.
What about you, do you keep flowers in your home?
Have you got a garden full of blooms?
What’s your favourite flower?
Til next time,
Jen x
