Fashion can be fickle ladies! One minute it’s in and then it’s out. I know that keeping up with the latest fashion trends can be costly and always suggest to my styling clients that they should dip a toe into a trend by buying a ‘budget friendly’ item first.
If you really love that item and the trend is for you then next time around invest a little more for longevity.
Whatever your heart desires in the world of fashion there is almost always a budget friendly version available, the cool thing about fashion is if you’ve seen it in an issue of Vogue by an upmarket Designer it’s very likely you’ll find it slightly re-imagined (but definitely inspired by) in your local shopping mall at a price you can afford.
Just keep in mind the quality and comfort will be different to its higher priced alternative but to ‘try a trend’ it’s the way to go.
So that’s what we’re talking about today – affordable fashion! I’ve heard you ladies when you have reached out for ‘budget’ versions, so this post we’re going to take a look at one of my favourite fashion trends, sneakers.
Not your gym, running style shoes (as if I run!), but your street style sneakers, or as I like to call them ‘kicks’. They come in every available style, shape and colour and can look just as awesome with a summer dress as they do with a pair of jeans. In fact I am mad for wearing sneakers with a dress or skirt…give it a go.
Sneakers have been a wardrobe staple (definitely in my wardrobe) over the last five or so years, whether in Summer or Winter they work with just about every outfit and best of all – they’re comfy as! YES, my hips and knees thank me for loving sneakers!
Each season interprets the Street Sneakers a little differently – that means there’s a style to suit everyone! The Gucci inspired stripe on white is still going strong as is the ‘sock look’ runner. You will also see the 80s inspired trainer, espadrille sole and the classic 90’s platform are all making a comeback for Spring/Summer.
The great news is you can grab yourself a pair of sneakers for $100 or less and I’m going to show you how!
A white sneaker is the great all rounder. For decades white sneakers have been ‘white hot’ and they’re not going anywhere. The most versatile of the Street Sneaker, you can wear them as a solid white or introduce some stripes or embellishments to break the colour up plus add an edgy vibe. If you’re going to own one pair of kicks white is probably the pair for you!
Just remember to keep them clean – baby wipes are awesome for quick touch ups!
Like it’s soul sister the white sneaker, black is never out of style. A black sneaker is totally versatile – it can create a look that’s sleek and classic or edgy and cool.
Although for me personally an ‘all black sneaker’ just doesn’t feel right so I look for a white edge stripe, a touch of metallic or alternate colour laces on my black sneakers.
Teaming black sneakers with a fun statement tee, some denim and a leather jacket is pure rock chick cool. A pair of black kicks will work just as well dressing down a sleek suit.
Metallic colours are a great way to introduce colour into a look without actually introducing a colour! I know you know what I mean 😀
Whatever the shade of metallic you choose, gold, silver, rose gold or bronze, these metallics work as a ‘neutra’l with bold prints or can add the ‘pop’ to a simpler outfit. That’s right, they can work with just about everything and all year long. Mix and match your metallics and let your kicks shine!
There are so many colours and patterns available in Street Sneakers, there’s no limit to the fun you can create with any statement shades and patterns. Let’s also not forget to have fun with laces, swap out plain white laces and add clashing coloured or printed laces in their place.
Don’t worry about matching your shoe colour to the rest of your outfit, this is your chance to have some ‘fashion fun’ and let your personality shine. I love a pastel sneaker teamed with denim, whites and greys – classic cool. But don’t dismiss florals, polka dots, stripes and even leopard print for instant street cred!
I hope you love my collection of Street Sneakers all under $100! If you’re looking for inspiration on how to introduce street sneakers into your wardrobe – make sure you follow me on Instagram – my sneaker game is strong!
Let me know if there’s a ‘Look for Less’ you’d like me to feature!
