A big welcome to Sarah Shanahan! Sarah’s the first of my guests in a new series I’m featuring here at Styling Curvy called “Getting to Know You”.
As a community I feel #blessed to have been supported & guided by you all, I think it’s time to share the love! So I’m going to be chatting to a group of rad women who inspire & uplift me with their amazing creativity & hard work.
I’ve asked Sarah some fast & fun questions as well as some deeper, more home hitting ones so we can find out more about this multi-talented woman from my home town of Radelaide.
Goal for 2019:
To take a little leap and chase a little dream that I have for my business…stay tuned!
Your personal style in 3 words:
Simple with a touch of Scandi.
I’m always inspired by:
Happy people who give things a go.
A quote I love:
“Work hard and be nice to people” a quote that is framed in our house. I wanted my kids to see it everyday growing up.
I’m happiest when:
I’m happiest when I’m at home on a cold, rainy day – simple as that!
On the weekend you’ll find me:
Housework with coffee and movie dates thrown in.
What can’t you live without?
Coffee
Tell us a little bit about what you do:
I’m a home organiser. I de-clutter, sort & restore calm & order to people’s homes. Nothing is too messy or cluttered for me, I’ve seen it all!
I also have a huge love of interiors & run interior “Shop with Sarah” shopping tours every 6-8 weeks visiting my favourite SA stores with lunch, bubbles & treats thrown in. A fun day out.
What inspired you to start your own business?
I started my business when my four children were young. I knew I had to be organised to keep the house under control & started helping friends & family do the same. It wasn’t really a “thing”when I started & people would laugh when I told them what I did, but it’s certainly taken off with the Marie Kondo “tidying up” fever that’s gripped the world. Great for business!
In terms of my shopping tours, I saw a gap in the market here in Adelaide. I’ve always dreamed of my own home wares store so I thought I’d take people to my favourite stores instead!
If you could collaborate with anyone who would it be?
Colin Firth, ready at a moment’s notice ha ha! No seriously, Marie Kondo would be a dream & if Ellen DeGeneres needs her house de-cluttered I’m happy to go on the show!
My first creation was:
Organising my own pantry & realising how calming & satisfying it is.
Top 3 Instagram accounts:
I’m going to choose three non-Australian accounts because it’s too hard to choose favourite local accounts!
Top 3 places to shop in your home town:
What advice would you give to women wanting to start their own business?
Do your research, be prepared to work hard, get social media savvy & go for it!
Proudest achievement:
Knowing that I started from nothing, jumped in, gave it a go & followed my dream.

What an inspiration – bloody good work, Sarah! 👏 If you can be organised with 4 kids and a business to run, I really need to step up. 👊 Love your attitude too xx
It’s a tough gig mumming and working and running a household. Thanks goodness for people like Sarah who offer a fab service and helpful advice.
Great idea, I am a born stickybeak and love seeing into other peoples lives., for inspiration of course! I will certainly be following Sarah on Instagram, organised is my second name 😀 and I love reading anything about it and new ideas for storage. I have been known to stand in front of my linen cupboard just gazing at the tidiness. Hope you are enjoying Jenny Craig, waiting for an update, Kathryn x
haha, there is something about a clean and tidy linen cupboard. I just feel like I have my shit together when I have tidy cupboards.
Great addition to your already fabulous Newsletter Jenni. Loved reading about Sara’s inspirational journey so far. Thank you 💋
