I’ve got new floors!! Yes I’m doing a jig for floors haha. I have always loved a white wash floor and over the years have toyed with painting our timber boards, but the huz had other ideas because let’s face it, he would be the one painting them.
Recently the fire in my belly for washed boards was reignited after a getaway to Middleton Beach Huts, cute beach huts decked out with all things coastal and white floors! Right, that was it….it was time!
The kids have bashed the crappers out of our boards over the past eighteen years we have lived in our home. There’s been hot wheel tracks, indoor camping, parties, dropped glasses, footy boots and even cricket games all on our old boards. It was time for new boards in the hallway, kitchen, dining and 2 lounge rooms, mamas dream come true!
We have sanded them a couple of times over the years, and each time they get thinner and colder, and softer. So we decided to get new floors, in fact we decided on floating boards, apparently they are heaps tougher than our timber boards and the guys who install them do it in a day. One day! Sold!
I mean, we still have an unfinished laundry and all the doors in our house are off white, a different colour to our walls. We painted the walls white five years ago but still haven’t done the doors, because renovations are tiring. So ‘one’ day for floors is a freakin dream come true.
Now choosing said boards was a bit of a headache, we took home multiple samples, moved them around the house to get a ‘feel’ for them and I even consulted with my styling curvy community for advice. Eventually I settled on a board only to find out it had been deleted and there wasn’t enough stock left anywhere in Australia to do our house. The one on the right is the one I wanted.
So back to the drawing board it was. I took home a few more samples but eventually settled on my original number two choice (above left), and boy am I glad I did. I love it!!For those who will ask the board is Godfrey Hirst – Mondo-Nordic ash, limed grey.
Here’s the floors ‘before’…like right before the new floors were laid
and here is the after…
Seriously a sweet moment. Now check out the hallway before and after…
and now the kitchen (sorry for the wonky pic) and main lounge…
Gorgeous!!! Can I ask where you got your suburbs print from please? I love it 🙂
It’s a tea towel that I helped design about 7 years ago. Not available anymore sorry.
Looks excellent Jen, what a great feeling to have a refreshing new floor. I’m exactly the same, I have three different types of floor boards and have definitely wanted to paint them white and then I think black would be nice too. Just another job of many ongoing ones when you have an older style house, but I love the character that it creates. Enjoy xx
A home needs to have some character and heart
Looks lovely Jenni ❌❌
Thanks Marion

Ta Ness
Love it thanks for sharing ?
You’re welcome
Hi Jen … LOVE the floors my eldest daughter has just purchased her first home on the weekend ( 23!) .. (sooo proud) – and anyway the house has freshly done boards – very similar to yours – and OMG the difference it makes – the house did have tiles and WOW …soooo much better !! – we have LOTS of tiles and they are kind of terracotta color and they suit the house at the moment – but I am slowly re styling and can see that a floor board would look amazing – so my question to you is …… was it pricy – will I fall over at the thought of doing them – or was it on par with new carpet ? or even tiles – I have no idea ??
On par with a good carpet…great work by your daughter to get into the housing market.
Oh Jenni they are gorgeous.. doesn’t it open up the whole space.. and they are going to be oh so easy to clean… when I rebuilt two years ago.. we went with engineered Bamboo… but we or I was clever .. you see I have two little dogs.. so I picked one board that has scratches already in it.. so if you drop anything or the girls run silly.. no one would ever know… Jenn x. Ps I will try and post a pic later.. I have just lost all my pictures????????
Soooo easy to clean ?
Yes awesome love them ??????
Thanks Maxine

It looks gorgeous Jen. My husband is a sales manager for Anderson’s flooring here in Qld and he said you made a great choice. It’s very popular. ?
Oh cool
The transformation is refreshing. Love it. Looks like a new home. You must be so pleased. Go you and the husband you won’t know yourselves. So happy for you both. XX Love love.
Thanks kate, feels great
Yes. I did Mine in vinyl plank tiles. Light like these.
Love them.
Nice one
Love the flooring Jen. Love the wash and colour. In my old home of 18 years we had floating floors too best flooring it’s hardy and wears well. My current home I have a mixed bag of flooring. In my lounge Carpet, bedrooms down stairs floor boards, kitchen and hallway slate. And my bedroom carpet and slate. I’m not a huge fan of slate but having said that it adds a warm/cool to my home and is easy to clean. I love when you save up for something For your home and it gives your house a new lease of life xo
A little something new is always nice Jane
Absolutely bloody love it!!! Fresh, costal and full of character.
Thanks jenny
