Yesterday was ‘clean sheet day’ and while the family were out last night I drank tea, spent time culling my accessories and made my bed.
I also grabbed my phone and took photos as I made my bed, not because you guys need to know how to make a bed but I thought it might be fun for you to see how I layer my bed…kinda like my clothes. What I should have done was vaccum and tidy before I started taking photos…but I didn’t so turn a blind eye. Ta 🙂
I really, really want a bedroom makeover but the mortgage and bills really, really need to be paid so the makeover is on hold for now. This doesn’t stop me playing with colour and texture though and just like my clothes I do it my way. I’m definitely no expert bed maker, I just do what makes me n the mister feel good. After all it’s our room and should reflect and nurture both of us. Does your bedroom reflect you?
This winter I packed away the doona and it’s cover instead opting for a bedspread* and blankets, I’m making our bed the old fashioned way. I start with sheets…king size on our Queen bed because the mister is a sheet stealer. I always place my top sheet pattern facing down then when I fold the end back the pretty pattern and piping is facing up.
Next I layer a couple of blankets.
Then comes a super snuggly and oh so pretty blanket…I love the colour and feel.
Add the bedspread*, turning the top end down.
Then a throw on the end of the bed in a girly colour ( because I like some girly colour). My European pillow cases echo all the colours in my room and my bedding with a feminine/modern bohemian tone.
Next I layer like a player with the pillows and cushions. I use covers the same as the sheets for the pillows then add a cushion* in navy scale print and a few cushions in patterns we love but that juxtapose with the other prints. They add enough masculine edge to make the mister feel like it’s his bed too and tie back in with the curtains and rug helping to make a complete story.
Then I’m done! in summer our bedroom is neutral and calm but in the cold Adelaide winter I like colour…it makes me feel happier… colour has a way of being a mood changer.
Oh and a hot pink candle on the dresser is just all shades of girly fun and smells amazing too!
Do you favour a bedspread and blankets or is a doona more your style?
Til next time,
Jen x

your bedspread is very pretty..my bedroom is my haven..in winter I have a quilt and a blanket, etc, but then for the summer months I bought a vintage chenille bedspread to put on in place of the quilt..mu bedroom is me to tea really..xx
Sure sounds perfect Ann
Love it 🙂 It looks warm and cosy. I have mainly white in by bedroom in summer, but pull out all the mauve and purple stuff for winter.
Isn’t it great how colour works
Looks very inviting. Unfortunately, hubby hates (passionately) pillows and throw rugs.
Oh noooo! Well that makes it tough then. Maybe bring pattern in through your sheets?
Haha! No, I’ll just style the way I want. He can suffer. Xx
Cute! It looks very “you” 🙂 I’ve never had a bedspread, always a doona. I just pulled out the duck down heavy duty winter doona this week because we’re already in the minus degrees here! My top tip is to get a king size doona on a queen size bed – soooo much cosy! xx
It’s been fffffreezing here too lately. I’m living the layers of blankets though as I get hot due to menopause and the mister is one who feels the cold. Always good to be able to throw off a couple of layers. Yes I always go bigger on the bed, gives better coverage and feels more luxe.
Your bedroom is lovely Jenni,I really like the pops of colour ,I like a quilt but it’s a wool one and very warm, and I also love our bedroom Xx
Thanks Lisa we had a wool quilt for years but I can’t use it now I get hot flushes. X
So much pretty- I love all those layers! Being a lifelong sheet stealer, I get too tangled with blankets, a doona is much more my style!
Ahhhh…sheet stealer LOL
Layer like a player! Best line!! Your bed looks so cosy and inviting!
