A puffer vest can conjure up visions of ‘farm girl fashion’… or a ‘sideline soccer mum’ in desperate need of a coffee. Get the puffer vest look wrong and it’s straight to the sin bin, but get it right and you just might get a spot replacing sporty spice…or something like that.
A puffer vest is a great way to keep your back warm, stay protected from the wind and also to inject alittle more of a sporty/relaxed vibe into your outfit. They don’t need to be worn exclusively for morning walks or to the gym, you can also team them with your everyday fashion look.
I like to team mine with
– a tulle skirt or wet look pants for a juxtaposed style
-skinny leg jeans, ankle boots and a shirt
-soft droppie pant, long sleeve tee and white kicks
– a stretchy tube style maxi dress and kicks.
However you choose to wear it the good news is the good ole puffer vest can be a fashion staple.
What I’m wearing
Vest from Regatta Sport at Myer (available in store)
Frankie4 ‘Izzy Gunmetal’ ankle boot sizes 6-12
Harlow ‘you got the look’ legging (leather look) sizes XS (12-14)-XL (24-26)
Target ribbed knit sizes XS-XL
Scarf SEED (available in store)
Tips to team your puffer vest with your everyday style…in style.
Take it easy with the layers, no one needs to look like the marshmallow man. Add light weight, streamlined layers under your vest like a tailored shirt, hi lo tee or light knit.
Look for a puffer vest with a detachable hood/collar
Steer clear of batwing sleeves under your vest, they just look cumbersome and messy.
Teaming a sporty puffer vest with a skirt or tailored pants amps up the style.
A puffer vest loves a white sneaker…or any sneaker really.
Choose one that’s not too bulky and look at the direction of the quilting. Horizonal quilting can sometimes make you look wider across the back, choose vertical pattern or a quilting in a mixed pattern.
A hi-lo hem (if you can find it) in a puffer vest is also flattering and more stylish.
Choose the ‘right size, too big and it will make you look bulky. Personally like most jackets I never close a puffer vest so am happy to choose a size down to get a more streamlined look.
Wear it over an open longer lined shirt with a tee for a fun layered look.
Have fun with colour, a black puffer vest is a good staple but could a coloured one serve you better?
How not to wear a puffer vest
Don’t team it with a tank, wear it to the beach or wear in summer. Pretty simple right? 🙂
Puffer vests I’m crushing on
1.Katies melange puffer sizes 8-20
2.Katies wine puffer sizes 6-22
3.CountryRoad almond pink quilted puffer sizes XXS-XL
4.Virtu khaki fur trim sizes 12-20
5.Kmart Fur trim sizes 8-20
How about you, are you a fan of the puffer vest? Seen any awesome ones lately?
Til next time,
Jen x

Yes I made two purchases last year one black and the other navy I just feel a little more covered especially if the top is a little fitted. Great choice cause there are time when a gal doesn’t want a jacket but just a little something ?
I’m the same Veronica, I can’t always wear a jacket (menopause) but a vest gives me the right amount of coverage.
I have this one from Curvissa: http://www.curvissa.co.uk/products/padded-stand-up-collar-gilet/_/A-27K505_14
It is horizontal quilting, but I sized down and I don’t feel like it makes me look squat. The zipper is a two ended zipper too, so I can have it done up just in the middle if I feel the need to rug up a bit! I love my puffer vest!
love a double ended zip 🙂
Loving this look – great for those winter days watching my soon play soccer – can I ask what’s the sizing is like for the Harlow leggings (10% off bonus!!)
Thanks you are my style icon ❤️
Donna I’m an 18 and 170cm and wear M. If I lose weight and hit a 16 I think I would grab . They are a little longer in the length so great for tall ladies and if you are shorter you can cuff, tuck or hem them.
I love this look. I don’t have one any more, but used to wear one all the time for winter. Wonder where it went…?? ? Big W have some too, and also Vally Girl. Think this will be my main add to the winter wardrobe this season! ❤️
Time for a new one Heidi 🙂
So timely! I’ve got the Kmart one but am yet to try it out, I wanted to buy a cheapy to see if it’s my thing before I spend $$$. Looking lovely as always
Oh wear it Caitlyn, can’t wait to see it on you
I bought a black puffer vest last season. I wasn’t excited by them but tried it on and loved it! I like to wear mine with a black and white printed blouse that i bought the same day and jeans. It’s a great look 🙂
sounds perfect Dianne
I love that country road in the blushy pink. Does anyone have it, or tried one on ? Their brand usually runs small and I would like to know what the opinion is on this one. Many thanks.
I have tried it Helen, fits a 16 or an 18 without being able to close it
Such great timing, I bought the same puffer vest on Sunday! Thanks for the styling tips. ???
Love the colour of it and the detachable hood.
