The summer clothes are now packed away but recently I dug deep in the drawers and pulled out a summer dress. Oh hello rainy winters day. Drab, bleary winters day. Ugh, depressing, grey winters day! I know some of my Queensland sistas are still enjoying bare legs, sunshine and holding onto their tans but here in the very South of Australia Winter has well and truly set in.
I don’t begrudge winter, in fact I really like it but when you get a few grey days in a row it can mess with a girl and her sunny disposition…a girl like me.
So, this morning I attempted to get dressed, but instead ended up tossing a mountain of coats and dresses onto my bed because nothing felt right. Everything felt as drab as the misty grey skies outside, that was until I spied a little pretty lurking in my wardrobe.
The last time I wore this summer dress was in Bali, I teamed it with shorts and even wore it as a dress, with a cocktail in hand. Ohhh Bali, I miss you. but look at the humidity affected red face, I don’t miss that!
This little summer dress is a winner, not just because it only cost me $5 but also, look, pom poms!
The colour and print are fresh, the length is just right to wear with pants or as a dress and because I love it I will always feel fabulous when I wear it 🙂
Ladies there’s no reason why you can’t get creative witha summer dress, in fact I strongly suggest you have a dig around your wardrobe and pull out your summer frocks and try them on. Team them with jeans, jeggings, legging and tights. Add ankle boots and layers or even knee high boots.
Look, I teamed this one with my boyfriend jeans, the red/orange colour and the blue are like colour lovers…just meant to be together ♥ The addition of a heeled bootie funks up the outfit a little, amps up the style if you like. If you really feel the cold add a layer underneath your dress. Thanks to menopause I have an internal combustion heater so I’m all good without the extra layer.
I could have left my outfit just like that but I felt that a little texture was needed. A scarf could have been too heavy with the print so instead I added this shredded denim necklace…isn’t it divine!
I’m doing double denim like a Queen 🙂
When I saw this necklace at Two Pairs Homewares I pretty much said “take all my money”, I had to have it! Thankfully I didn’t have to hand over ALL my money, just $75 which was a small price to pay for a piece I will wear over and over and over. And over!
Colour, texture and denim. That my friends is how I came to wear my summer Bali bargain dress on a cold winters day. See, style doesn’t need to be expensive.
How did I do, do you like it? Will you try something similar?
I hope you do.
