I love discovering new businesses to share and todays is even better because its run by a vibrant young entrepreneur.Talia is a uni student and the creator of TATi Terrariums, we had a lovely chat in her studio joined by Winston the pug (cuteness overload) and discovered Adelaide is a small place…Talia is actually my yoga teachers niece!
Tell me a little about your business.
It’s about 4 months old now I started late last year and built up over Xmas making terrariums as presents for family…you know uni student budget and all. I sourced succulents from grandma and friends and taught myself how to make them, I even make the concrete pots thanks to tutorials on U tube. After a while friends were wanting them and it grew from there. I did the Gilles Street Market late last year and had a great response which was fantastic and encouraged me to keep going. Since then I’ve done a few more markets and plan to keep doing more . I set up a little Studio at home but markets are my fave especially city ones because it’s a central location. I then joined Instagram and that added a whole different element to the business with styling and taking photos.
What’s been a challenge for your business?
I’m pretty cruisy and not really having any major dramas. I guess finding the time to work on the business side of things is a challenge.
What’s your favourite succulent?
Ecchiveria, it’s a flower like one. I like the symmetry and the shape.
Do you have a favourite vessel to work with?
Classic terrarium in large jar shape, can’t beat it. I’m really liking the concrete too. I’ve been making macramé hangers lately (thanks U tube) and experimenting with metallic.
If you’re after a late night snack is it chocolate or cheese?
Chocolate…but I do really like cheese.
Tea or coffee?
Coffee
When celebrating is it red or white in your glass?
Red…totally red, we’re an Italian family.
What do you do when you’re not tending to terrariums?
I’m at Adelaide uni studying commerce, I know it’s full on and so different to terrariums. I love it and it’s a great balance.
What’s your favourite music?
Ohhh, I tend to just listen to the top radio hits.
Festival or concert?
I’ve gone to a couple of festivals but have been to far more concerts.
Top 3 tips for caring for terrariums.
Do not overwater. Too much love kills.
Natural sunlight but not afternoon sun. A window sill is perfect.
Tidy the outer leaves to keep them neat, use a pair of tweezers if you need to.
There you have it, thanks so much to Talia for having me and to Winston for being so darn cute!
