Have you got a LBD…A little black dress? Don’t confuse LBD with VPL (visible panty line) or LBL (little bladder leakage)…LOL…well have you? I have never owned one (until recently), preferring to wear colour and not wanting to feel like a sausage squeezing into a shiny black skin so I have always given the LBD a wide berth.
To be honest dressing for evening gigs is not my strong point, maybe it’s because I’ve never been a bridesmaid. Yeah those chicks are drawn to taffeta and sequins like a moth to a flame. The only fancy pants dress I ever really owned was an emerald green ruched number that I wore to my year 12 formal circa 1988. Whaaaat? It was the 80’s!
Well all that changed when I received the Romantic Escapades dress from Harlow, this baby changed my life! I know that women all around the globe never tire of a black dress and they can take you from office to cocktails, boardroom to bedroom and will always see you red carpet ready so I slipped this baby on and BAM!
Ahhhh, now I understand. Chic, sexy and…done. Yeah, get a good LBD and you are done. Well you might want to add some seriously scandalous stilettos or chunky statement heels, a neckful of bling, hello gorgeous clutch or maybe a splash of colour with a belt or a sash…then, you’re done.
Women throughout the ages have understood the value of a LBD, like Marilyn, Audrey, Diana and Jackie…and now Jenni is rockin her LBD {see how I just talked about myself in the 3rd person…weird hey}.
I even purchased some seriously cool chunky heels, I totally walk like a newborn baby giraffe in them, need to shorten my stride and add some swagger to my walk but when I stand still BAM…they look rad!
I love this dress for the curved hemline, deep pockets (swoon), statement sleeves and flattering neckline. It has a fluid movement and tonight I’m popping on my Bella Bodies Shapewear to help smooth out the lumps n bumps. I carry quite a lot of weight in my droopy belly with its extra folds so decided I needed a little help to complete my look.
It’s a night of firsts because I’ve not got down with shapewear in the past either, yeah I’ve tried a few styles of knickers but those babies hurt…like torture. I’m not a fan of handing over loads of money for knickers that push my stomach fat out under my bra and stop me from eating and sometimes breathing. Big undies that roll down as soon as I move and turn me into a contortionist in the loo. Nu uh, pity the fool.
Well my friend Bev from Iris May Style recently reviewed this shapewear and I trust her so I jumped online and ordered the slip and a bra ( more on that another time), it arrived this week and I headed straight to the bedroom for a little play.
Ummmm, holy crap it’s got inbuilt knickers with hook n eye clasp! I nearly swallowed my tongue when I saw it…my mind wandered back to messy Friday nights at the Canungra pub (late 80’s early 90’s) and visits to the loo fumbling with bodysuits argghhh!
Anyhoo, I stepped into it, wiggled n jiggled and hey presto that sucker bloody works!
I had master 16 take a pic of me on the front verandah and the photo went a bit crazy on Facebook and Instagram, seems thousands of people like a 40 something year old suburban mumma in her underwear LOL. This shapewear slip has power panels, a magic sticky band at the hem to keep it in place and you don’t need to wear a bra (or knickers) with it but feel free to like I have in the pic below.
Here’s the best part, when I slip on my LBD and shapewear I transform, yup it just makes me feel put together.
This year I’m heading to my misters work Christmas dinner feeling different to the last two I’ve attended, not only do I have hair and two boobs but I feel full of life and with my new threads I know I will be looking spesh.
Til next time
Jen x
