Ooh la la, my title sounds like I might be writing about something saucy but I promise it’s all about fashion and styling and not about what goes on in the bedroom.
Faux leather is a polyurethane imitation leather also known as ‘PU’ or ‘pleather’…call it what you want. Pleather is leather look fabric without wearing a dead animal.
Yup the vegan friendly version of leather is having its time in the spotlight and is super hip amongst fashionistas as an alternative to leather.
Pleather is durable, comfortable, comes in a variety of colours, is less restrictive than leather, cheaper than leather and travels well.
It’s easy to care for, just hand wash and line dry. Don’t throw it in the dryer and never use a hot iron. I use a steamer on my pleather but turn it inside out first.
Pleather is very popular in mainstream sizing and also plus sizing because all women want to let their inner rock star shine. You can pick up full pleather pieces like a skirt, jacket or pants or maybe try a pleather trimmed item for a ‘touch’ of rock star.
Recently I’ve been sporting some Harlow pleather pieces like this skirt and top (below) and when I wear them I get my Suzi Quatro strut on. Yup, a little pleather makes me feel sassy and sexy. I gotta say at first I thought it would highlight all my lumps ‘n bumps ‘n dimples, but surprisingly it doesn’t! The Harlow pleather pants are fairly generous so check the size guide as you might like to size down.
I’ve seen pleather pieces at mainstream stores like Seed, Sussan, Witchery, City Chic and Target (to name a few) and of course you can find it online too on sites such as Harlow, Ezibuy and ASOS.
What about you…would you give it a try?
Til next time,

I’ve got some ponte pants/leggings with some pleather down the side and they are super foxy. They take regular pants to the next level and they’re a good way to pop my pleather cherry. I think I got them from Jeans West and they were really reasonably priced too. I see more pleather in my future. These pieces look ace on you, Jenni x
Haha, you are totally foxy Sammie xx
I am a big fan. Pleather is so much beather. (see what i did there?)
Although i have a great real leather jacket that cost me an absolute bomb, the rest of my rock chick arsenal is all PU.
I like it better because you can wash it!! No expensive dry cleaning needed at all. Great post and the Burgundy Harlow Top looks absolutely stunning on you. That colour is amazing with your hair.
Go jen x
I did see what you did there I think you are the high priestess of the ‘rock chic’ look Barbe, I love your style and pleather loves you x
So much to love about pleather. First and foremost though, is the price!
P.s…you’re such a stunner xx
Waaay cheaper than leather Bev I do love leather too but let’s face it my bank account couldn’t cope with a wardrobe of leather…so pleather it is!
At first I was all “no way” about pleather but like so many other trends before it, I have come around to eating my words and now own a pleather pencil skirt which is super rad and a long-line striped tee with pleather sleeves. I did order a pair of ponte + pleather leggings from the Iconic recently but they were about 25cms too long for my short legs. Much disappoint!
I was all ‘no way’ too Beth…but here I am wearing pleather! Bummer about the long legs, do you know someone who is handy on a Janome?
you look great jen! your style so suits you, I think!
I’m not a wearer of pleather myself, but I’ve loved leather pants in the past!
I did get some almost pleather looking pants in Melbourne but haven’t worn them yet!
hope you are well hun! love m:)X
do you still have your leather pants Merilyn? Might be time to dust them off 🙂
I too was a little apprehensive about pleather, but now a convert! It makes your look a little more classy. Kmart have some pleather skirts I’m eyeing out.
It took me a while to take the leap too, now I love it 🙂
You look great, those pants look especially gorgy and comfortable! Can I just say that I love the word pleather, have never heard it before….so looking forward to using it! I also have a fav pair of country road pleather numbers… They are so much more comfortable than my jeans even. Rachael
I love the word ‘pleather’ too 🙂
Absofreakinglutely! And on another note – how hawt do you look spunk! x
