My first real (grown up) boyfriend was Dean Collins, dark haired, tall, muscly and in the Army. Look, the relationship didn’t last long but it was heady and exciting and I will always remember what I was wearing the night I met him at a paddock party, when we kissed under the bright stars in country Canungra (that’s a town) and he made my whole world go ‘boom’.
I was wearing a ‘floral fit ‘n flare’ dress purchased from Dotti in Southport, the year was 1989 and I have loved floral ever since. So when I spied the new Vagabond collection from Bohemian Traders and in particular this Floral Dreamer Dress I had to make it mine. I have a few dreamer dresses from past collections but this one has been re-imagined.
A new lease of life for an old favourite.
Gone are the lace details and in it’s place is beautiful white binding and pretty ruffled sleeves. I mean, have you ever! The floral had me at ‘hello’ but those ruffles…well they had my name written all over them. The v neckline has several hook and eyes, so you can create just the right bustline for you. Me?…I like a bit of skin showing 🙂
When I received the Dreamer Dress I knew I wanted to style it several different ways, so off to the blue wall I went to grab a few pics. Here’s three ways I styled the Floral Dreamer Dress.
Breezy, easy loose and flowy.
Some days just call for a loose dress, am I right? Let the ruffles, pretty print and accessories do the talking and wear it loose. You could add the waist tie to your hair as a head band, wear as a neck tie or tie around your handbag.
Let’s head back to the late eighties and wear it drop waisted.
I was a fan of the drop waist way back then and I am a fan now, it suits my apple shape as I can flounce some fabric over my guts and create a softer look. Tying the sash lower on the hips gives the illusion of a shorter skirt and top…but it’s a dress.
Tie it high under ya boobies.
I will be honest, this is not a look I would normally go for but the moving floral print and flowy fabric lend itself to the ‘tied high’ look so I gave it a go. I actually don’t mind it for something different, I think the V neckline certainly helps with the proportions on me.
Let’s talk Gritty Pretty.
Ok, floral on its own is sweet but I like to harden it up. When wearing sweet girly pieces I like to create interest by toughening it up, like I have with the black shoe (from Diana Ferrari) and lariat necktie. I added metallic crucifix earrings which tied back with the metallic ends of the neck tie.
Wearing that pop of black on my feet and up higher in the necktie ‘top ‘n tailed’ the hardness and brought the look together. The white piping contrasts beautifully with the black and they both now pop. To complete the look I chose a lippy with some bright orange and a hint of peach undertone that worked back with the peach in the floral print. Doing this makes the whole look less jarring and helps it all come together.
I am wearing Dreamer Dress in 3xl but could have sized down. You can find it here
I have plans for this dreamer dress, I want to try her with denim, leather, tan boots and even sporty kicks. What do you think of how i styled it today? Can you remember what you were wearing on your first hot date?
Til next time

Beautiful dress Jen
Would never have thought to put black accessories with the pastel tones but it works so well, and that colour lipstick just pops it’s fantastic. I have always stayed away from peachy orange tones (due to being mums favourite and I don’t want to be a clone of mum) but it looks great I just have to find the right tone for me 😘
Toughening up something pretty sits my style personality, have fun with fashion x
Absolutely beautiful dress ❤️❤️
I’ve just bought this dress to wear to a wedding. I’m going to wear the tie under my boobies. I hadn’t thought of wearing it with black shoes. It certainly revs it up. Thanks for all the ideas. 💕

Enjoy the weddingx
Great styling tips. It looks great on you all ways. On my first date I wore a blue and white pin spot voile, short evening dress. It had a big sort of shawl collar, and on a waist. This was in 1964. ❤️
Sounds beautiful Di x
I love all the ways you have styled this dress, especially with the black shoes – it gives it a great edgy look whilst still being pretty. I wouldn’t have even thought to do that & now I’m gonna steal this look 😊. My floral dress came in the post yesterday & I can’t wait to wear it! xx
Oh have fun Nat x
