In the summer months I love a Friday night home made burger! It’s quick, tasty and I can be as messy as I like chomping into my burger because I’m in my own lounge room…it’s also easy! Yay to home style takeaway dinners! Here’s my quick recipe, there’s no gluten or eggs, instead I use veg to help bind and if I cook on a gentle heat it stays together. Naturally you could add more ingredients but this is about quick, easy and tasty. The trick for a burger that packs a punch in the flavour department is to use plenty of herbs and spices…add whatever you like and lots of it!
Here’s what you need for 4 burgers
500g mince…I always use organic.
I grated zucchini, squeeze out excess liquid.
1 grated carrot.
Fresh chopped chives.
2 cloves of finely chopped garlic.
1/2 chopped chilli.
Salt and pepper to taste.
Knob grated turmeric finely grated…I mainly use it for health benefits but you can leave it out if you like.
You know the drill, mix it together and divide into 4, shape into burgers or do like I do and use a burger press like my trusty ole Tupperware one.
Add a ‘little’ oil to a pan and cook on a medium heat until cooked through. Remove and allow to rest for a few minutes.
Cut bun, add butter if you like but we prefer a good relish on one side and tomatoe sauce on the other. Slice a cucumber and layer 4 slices per burger, add tomatoe slices, some lettuce and top with Jarlsberg cheese and cooked burger pattie.
That’s it! It’s Friday night so use paper plates because really who wants to wash dishes? Not me…actually not ever!
The boys like a raspberry cordial and I add fresh chopped Apple to the mix for a few hours to infuse. Refreshing 🙂
What’s your favourite ‘takeaway’ to have at home?
Such a childhood Friday night memory of mine you have here! Yum x
A good one Erin
We had burgers tonight too! Fish for me, beef for him. We don’t eat takeaway often, most of it upsets my IBS. Sat on the couch, glass of wine with it – winning! x
Should have said home made too!
That’s why I make them Kathryn, I can add some goodness and eliminate things that will inflame me 🙂 x
looks good jen!
love the look of your healthy patties with or without the bun!
I love those dark tomatoes too!
enjoy your weekend love m:)X
Yes Merilyn I don’t often et the bun. How good are tomatoes…I love finding different varieties x
Love, love, love homemade burgers. Peter says mine are better than anything bought. We are little more decadent in our ingredients though (insert sneaky grin here).
Xx m
Nods head…home made can’t be beaten especially if an egg, fancy cheese and some home roasted beetroot are involved. Gah YUM! x
These look delish and so healthy. I love the way you use the veggies to bind it together – genius! And that burger press! Need, want, love!
Thanks Sammie, I’ve had that burger press for years and love it. Perfect burgers every time x
