I like my sleep but over the past three years it hasn’t always come easy. My body has dramatically changed since that pesky breast cancer diagnosis. Multiple surgeries have left me with scarring and pain. Chemo left some not so welcome gifts too like sore bones and joints and of course the ongoing medication has me in menopause. Hello hot flushes!
I’m a morning person but the mister is a night owl so more often than not I’m up later than I would like to be, which means I actually find it harder to ‘get to sleep’. Who can even function and be nice when sleep deprived? Not me! I’ve got lots of sleep inducing rituals down to a fine art. You know, having an evening shower, getting into pyjamas, a little meditation and stretching (not every night) and sometimes I even play a ‘sleep playlist’ to lull me into sleepy land.
The biggest problem has been our mattress. Because of my sore joints and surgeries I feel ‘all’ of the springs and I wake every morning with a sore shoulder, sore hip and sore thigh. I also flip and flop like a fish sucking for air in a puddle…not much fun for the mister. Oh, and I’m also freakin hot thanks to her freakin Majesty, Menopause!
We dropped a motza of cash on our mattress and to be honest it was a fail after the first year, we’ve had it now for nine years. You see a mattress is an investment and after being burned buying a new one is a gamble, one we’ve been putting off for far too long. Cue the Lone Ranger music because recently ECOSA came to my rescue. They offered to gift me a mattress…I jumped at the opportunity because, sore hips!
As with anything that is sent my way for editorial consideration I test it and IF I like it I will share it with you because sharing is caring, and who doesn’t like having inside information…it’s like a head start!
ECOSA mattresses are easy to order, you can only purchase them online (cuts out the middle man and keeps the cost down), choose your size, pay and sit back. Easy peasy 🙂
I gotta say the customer service was excellent, emails regarding shipping progress were frequent and the mattress was on my doorstep within 2 days of ordering!
Here’s the fun bit, they arrive in a box, a box with wheels and a handle so you just tilt and pull along for easy maneuverability, very handy if you live on your own or need to get the mattress up stairs. The mattress is also vacuum sealed, just grab the enclosed cutting tool, follow the instructions and in under five minutes you will be flopping on your mattress wishing for the Sandman to make an early arrival.
Once open the mattress is ready to go but for best results let it sit for around ten hours to fully expand.
Now I told you all I would road test (sleep on it) and give you my honest feedback. Well I honestly ordered this for my son but after laying on it for eleven seconds I called dibs. This sleep inducing gift was mine!
We’ve been sleeping on it for around a week now and I’m waking refreshed, not tossing and turning and the best bit is I wake without the pain. Hallelujah ? The Mister is still getting used the mattress. He likes it but won’t say he ‘loves’ it…yet.
I guess that’s the thing about a mattress when two people are sleeping on it. We aren’t all built the same and our preferences can be different. The mattress feels super firm when you first lay on it, not firm as in hard but firm as in no give. You just kinda flop ‘on’ it, then the ‘magic’ happens. Within minutes it molds to me, I feel supported exactly where I need to feel supported and nothing is digging in.
I guess that’s the combination of latex and memory foam doing its thing. I hear the gasps from menopausal women ‘latex’!…isn’t that hot? I gotta say, not for me. So far I feel cooler, and it’s high Summer! Maybe it has something to do with the gel layer? I don’t know the science behind the mattress but you can head to the ECOSA website and read more. I just know I’m sleeping well and not feeling hot. Winning.
I’m also not waking the Mister with my flipping over, A, because I hardly do it and B. because this mattress has amazing anti partner disturbance properties. I actually placed two coffee cups on the mattress and jumped up and down several times…the cups stayed still! I’ve also watched video of acouple who placed wooden blocks on the mattress and jumped around…all stayed in tact.
If you’re looking for a mattress and want ease of purchase and delivery I highly recommend the ECOSA mattress. If you’re not sure then keep in mind the 100 night trial policy. If after 100 nights you’re not satisfied then you can return the mattress for an exchange or a full refund. Don’t worry, the used mattress is not resold, it’s donated to charity. Oh and the mattress comes with a ten year warranty 🙂
These days I look forward to sleep and have even been sleeping in, happy days.
How long have you had your mattress? Do you love it?
til next time,
Jen x
the ECOSA mattress was sent to me for my editorial consideration in line with my disclosure policy.
Check out ECOSA on Facebook HERE or head to their website HERE
We’ve had a memory foam mattress for four years and it was love at first lay. I’ve always loved bed and I love it even more now. It’s the best sleep I’ve ever had. I recommended it to friends, they bought one and they loved it too! As soon as I saw you got that mattress, I knew you’d love it! The only downside is that it can get a little bit hot in summer but not enough to stop me sleeping. Sweet dreams indeed!
‘Love at first lay’ 🙂 I’ve always been one to jump out of bed as soon as my eyes open, but lately I want to linger longer. This mattress has a cooling gel layer, I honestly don’t get hot. Bonus.
That sounds like a totally awesome result. Nothing like a good night’s sleep to change the colour of your day ?
Absolutely Jan, waking refreshed is the best way to start the day 🙂
We are in the market for new mattresses for the kids ….. I’ll be taking a closer look at ECOSA. Thanks for the heads up!
Brilliant Allison, they come in single and King single for the kiddies ? Good luck.
Sounds brilliant, Jenni. I am so over being woken up by the pain in my lower back every morning but because we’ve got a weird sized IKEA bed, I’m worried we’re locked into their mattresses forever. I am starting Pilates again this week so hoping that gives a bit of relief. As for the snoring and partner disturbance . . . my husband and I have been doing the separate room thing for a little while and as much as I like him being in bed with me, I do sleep so much better alone!
Oh I hear ya Beth, having the ‘whole’ bed to myself is always nice but I do miss my Mister when he’s not there. Good luck with your return to Pilates, hope it does the trick x
Hi Jenni. We ordered one of these on Australia Day and it’s due to be shipped today and I cannot wait. We dropped a lot of cash on a new mattress in November and it’s awful! All the issues with it are listed under a section in the warranty titled ‘Things you might think are a fault but are not’ (it really does say that!). You review gives me even more hope we will once again be comfortable and rested! I hope it continues to help your sleeping 🙂
Oh no Bec, sorry your dud mattress was only purchased back in November. What a shame the warranty is so shifty too. What made you choose the ECOSA? We are super happy, hope you are too.
You live and learn with mattresses! We chose the ecosa because of the no disturbance, the latex/memory foam combo and the 100 day sleep test. That last one was really impressive for me, it seems crazy that you spend $1000’s of dollars on something that you will spend lots of time in after laying on it for five minutes with a sales person watching over you (or as was in one case, sitting on the end of the bed…haha!). I can’t wait for it to arrive, I feel giddy with the thought of a good nights sleep!
it looks like a great mattress thanks jen! … plus I did love that fast motion video!
it’s always helpful to have someone honestly recommend a product!
love m:)X
Hubby and I are due to update our mattress, as the dips from where we both lie are very noticeable. I will definitely look into the ECOSA, as Hubby tosses and turns and had back niggles, which from your testing sounds like it helps stops these things. Thanks for sharing Jen!
Hi Jenni.
Did you notice the smell?
I have found that when I wake in the morning
the chemical smell is really quite strong.
I like the feel, but have found the ‘new bed smell’
much stronger than other beds i’ve purchased.
Thoughts?
Patricia.
Hi Patricia, yes it stayed for about a week. Mine has lost the smell altogether now ?
Thanks for the reply, Jenni.
I’ll persevere for a bit.
Thanks.
Hi Jenni I just came across the Ecosa on my Instagram feed and then saw your blog on it on FB.
I like the idea of trying it for a while to see how it goes. I did buy a latex mattress a few years ago and the smell was sooo overpowering Even after about a month it was still there and it was a nightmare to get this well known local manufacturer to replace it with something else.
Anyhow how long before the smell disappeared with the Ecosa?
Lydia it took about a week, maybe a little longer for the smell to go. It’s non existent now.
Jen I love it. The smell was hardly noticeable and gone within a few days. Its soo comfy. Hubs isnt sold (he only tried it for a few hours) but we dont sleep together so its a non issue for me really. Thanks again for the blog post, it sold me on giving it a try and I’m glad I did 🙂
I’m so pleased you love the mattress as much as I do Lydia 🙂
Hi Jenni. Now that you’ve had the bed for 3 weeks, what do you think?
Sarah I’m loving the mattress, getting great sleep and it’s very comfy for the Huz and I.
Hi Jenny,
I have been suffering from a bulging disc on my right , had a pinched nerve pain 24/7 going down to the leg on the right (again on the same side)–( mild sciatica)
Till now I spent a lot already on mattress , everyday I wakeup with pains , pains , pains in my back , leg , shoulders and neck…
I am scared to buy any mattress , I heard of Ecosa , please help me , pls advise me if this mattress suits me well—-
Im eagerly waiting for ur reply
ThankQqqqqqqqqqq
Sorry I can’t give medical advice, I can only say that we’ve been sleeping on the mattress since January and were very happy with it.
