I’ve been in the cesspool of a chest infection and after five years of no cold or flu this past week has been a shit ride. Look, I’m not dying but the hacking cough is keeping us ALL awake, I can’t smell the new car smell of my new car, my ears are foggy and banging and my bladder has had enough!
So what can you do when you feel like crap but don’t want to wallow in the crappiness?
Take care of yourself!
I have needed to cancel a speaking engagement and several meetings, sure that made me sad but to be honest if I passed this sickness on I would feel even worse. When you’re ill, set some boundaries and don’t feel bad about changing plans. Medicinal hot chips totally counts as taking care of yourself too….so does half a loaf of white bread toast slathered in butter. If my trainer is reading this, look away NOW!
Get some rest.
Rest looks different to different people so I’m just slowing down. I’m lingering in bed longer in the mornings, enjoying a long sitting shower (stool in the shower), I’ve backed off the housework and I’ve put the majority of my work on hold. For me I know that if I just screech to a halt and do nothing I actually feel worse, so living in the slow lane is where it’s at.
For as long as I can remember if I get up, get dressed and pop on a hint of makeup I just feel more human. Whether I was juggling the hazy days of babies, getting through chemo or waiting out a cold it just helps.
I feel better when I’m not sitting at home looking at the mountain of housework that I’ve backed off from, so I like to get out of the house. I still get up and dressed and take myself out for my morning cuppa or brekky.
A nourishing breakfast that I don’t have to cook myself makes me feel better every single time. Some days I just like to take the dog for a walk around the neighbourhood, because fresh air, sunshine and puppies are endorphin boosters. I don’t overdo it, once I’ve had enough it’s straight home to curl up on the couch.

Shout out to Kirsten from Skin Boss for the care package that arrived today. When I’m unwell I take to the shower several times a day and my skin takes a battering. I’ve been slathering on my Skin Boss oils and thanks to Kirsten I’m topped up…and I have chocolate 🙂
