Here it is ladies, the 2018 Denim Edit Jeans and Beyond! And this round also includes a few jackets and skirts. I know, I spoil you 🙂 There really is a denim jean style out there for everyone so read on to see what might suit you. I have also included a few fave styles, you can hit the link to shop.
DENIM JEAN STYLES DECIPHERED.
SKINNY LEG– Universally a skinny leg will suit everyone, I promise. Just get the rise right (for comfort) and get the accompanying leg length correct and you will be feeling bodacious and bootylicious that IS a real word, Beyoncē says so) in no time. A skinny leg likes a top that’s a little relaxed, and if you need extra length look for a curved hem and don’t be afraid to do a little half tuck. The easiest way to do this is twist one corner and tuck it into your pocket or waistband…then flounce the top a little.
BOYFRIEND– Boyfriend jeans are easy to admire but not always easy to wear. Too baggy and you’ll end up looking like you’re in denim clown pants, and look much larger than you are.
The trick to wearing boyfriend jeans is they need to be worn slung a little lower on your hips not pulled up to the waist. It might feel weird at first but it’s a style I love to wear and got used to wearing very quickly.
STRAIGHT LEG– If you really don’t feel comfortable in a skinny leg Jean then relax it a little and go for a straight leg denim jean. This will still show off your gorgeous shape while leaving you feeling comfortable.
DROPPIES– A denim droppie is also a fun option, they are comfy, practical and surprisingly versatile. Most have an elasticated waist (oh yeahhh baby) and are super dooper comfy. Look I know they are not for everyone, but me?…I love em! I don’t care if people think they ‘look funny’ because I know how comfy I am when wearing them. Wear low with a tee or shirt or a knit sweater. Wear with sneakers or dress up with heels and a statement necklace.
DENNIM JOGGER– these pants are versatile, street style and comfy (much like a droppie). They will normally have a tie waist and elastic cuff ankle and look great worn with a sloppy oversized jumper and sneakers.
WIDE LEG– a wide or flare hem will usually have a longer leg length, the taller you are then the wider you can go with the flare. If you are a shorter woman you can totally wear them too, just remember to always add height with a heel.
LOW-RISE– A low-rise will make a short torso look longer (wear higher waist control knickers if muffin top is an issue).
HIGH-RISE– A high-rise can ‘shorten a long torso’ and look amazing with a top tucked in. If you love a crop top then team with a high waist denim jean and love the look even more, just keep the length of your crop top modest.

DENIM JACKETS ROCK!
I am mad for a denim jacket and if you snooped in my wardrobe you would find several, some are decades old! Blue is one of my ‘best colours’ and I love the laid back style look so it makes sense for me to have a few blue denim jackets to my wardrobe arsenal.
For a gal with very short hair and a round face I prefer a more feminine style denim jacket with no collar and no boxy pockets, I even have one with a little denim frill 🙂
Customise your denim by distressing it a little with some sand paper or a grater (stretch denim is harder to distress) or add some razzle dazzle with a sequin patch/collar, buttons or ribbon trim. Think the 80’s…go BIG or go home…well, not too big!

Rodney Clark Collarless Denim Jacket (XS-XXL), Blue Bungalow Indigo Jett Denim Jacket (8-18)
A DENIM SKIRT IS A GREAT FOUNDATION PIECE
You will always find a denim skirt in my wardrobe, I’m not talking a ‘butt cheek hugger’ style skirt but more of a ‘sensible’ length skirt. They are so easy to wear especially when ducking to the shops or out for a coffee. I add a tee, sneakers and a leather jacket and I am good.to.go! Right now my fave style is a fringed hem denim skirt from Adrift, I have it in blue and white…yes WHITE! Don’t be scared of white ladies, unless you have a chocolate addicted two year old. Then you may want to steer clear for a year or three!
Adrift Denim Skirt (2XL-4XL), The Iconic Fever Denim Skirt (12-22), Katies Belt Loop Detail Denim Skirt (8-20)
City Chic Denim Fling Skirt (20-24), ASOS Curve Denim Wrap Skirt (18-28)
CARING FOR YOUR DENIM
Caring for your denim is easy. If the denim is quality then you hardly ever need to wash them. I know, sounds kinda gross but you don’t want to break your jeans down do you? You can turn them inside out and air them outside (out of harsh sunlight), some people say a spell in the freezer works wonders too.
So how do you know ‘when’ to wash your denim? Well when it starts to sag, is dirty, you spill coffee on them or they get pongy 🙂 When you do wash turn them inside out and empty all the pockets, use a mild detergent, don’t soak and dry away from harsh sunlight.

Of all the jeans you have tried and tested which is the best, most comfy and flattering fit??????
That’s a tough one as my body changes often and what I like may be the same fit for others. Lots of readers love jeans west curve embracer.
I love everything Denim. Chambray shirt is my go too on weekends and yes even the double denim who would of thought that’s back. I’m currently wearing Jeanswest Curve Embracer have them in lots of colours eg white, dark blue, light blue and black some holey and some not!!!
Love this post!!!
Xx
The curve embracer are a popular choice Jane. I love chambray too!
My favourite jeans are the Target Sophie…absolutely have fallen in love wih them. I didn’t wear jeans for years because they were never quite right! I now have a drawer full of different colours and even ones with the distressed look. My next purchase will be the collarless denim jacket. Thanks for showing me I can wear denim toojust like everyone else.
Sophie jean fan here too, Louise! So easy to wear and affordable too 🙂
They qre a great jen and mine have been going strong for 2 years.
🙌 Thank you so much for this Styling Curvy 🙌
I was looking everywhere last night for a ‘not-so-short’ denim skirt for Winter. I’m looking at the Adrift one…plus a jacket & jeans now too 😂
Perfect denim skirt, love the fringing detail.
Love me some denim, especially if it’s distressed look. The Sophie from Target is my go-to denim jean as the ankle length is the perfect full-length on my short legs. No alterations – winning! Hey, have you tried the Style Laundry Distressed Denim droppies? They look like exactly what I want in a droppie but from their sizing chart the XXL only has a waist measurement on 92cm and I’m 100cm. Does an XXL in their droppies fit you?
Thanks 🙂
I can wear XL and XXL in style laundry x
I have just discovered the Jeans West curvy range. And now own way too many pairs of curvy bootcut jeans but the fit is perfect so I always say get them while you can..they come is other styles too..
The ‘curve embracer’ is a very popular style.
Woohoo! A collarless denim jacket. Love the colour options too. Thank you, Jen 😘
You’re welcome hun x
After almost giving up on finding the right jeans for me, until stumbled across this seasons straight leg jeans at Kmart. They are a lovely soft denim that glide over my lumps and bumps without cutting in anywhere.
How good is it when we finally find that piece we have been after!
