There’s a pair of flats that have been over looked a little bit lately by it’s stylish sista the Sneaker. It’s the Brogue and when it comes to ‘stylish flat shoes’, the Brogue really can’t be beaten.
This wardrobe staple is classic, it’s classy and it’s ohhh so comfortable.
Whether you are teaming them with a wide pair of pants and blazer for some old school Hollywood masculine inspired glamour or with a pair of jeans and cute chunky knit, a pair of Brogues will always elevate your outfit in a way a pair of sneakers just can’t.
Don’t get me wrong, I am and always will be a fan of sneakers but Brogues are featuring more and more in my shoedrobe because the elevate my style effortlessly.
Let’s take a look at some of the Brogues out there and how you can make them work for you.
You all know my love affair with Frankie4 and their functional and fashionable footwear. Their signature Brogue the Beth is one of my favourite footwear choices. This style is available in 9 colours – so there really is a pair for everyone. And now I’m happy to add Beth in perforated white, yes white! Talk about timeless!
Be daring and let your feet do the talking! Brogues don’t have to be basic. A print is a great way to introduce some fun onto your feet! Animal print is always a winner and really becomes a statement in it’s own right. I also love that because they are light and dark you can pair them back with just about anything…basically a neutral 🙂 These embroidered flowers (below) are also bang on trend too with a stylish nod to the 90s. Pair both styles back with a block colour t-shirt dress and long line cardigan or get a little crazy and try a leather skirt or leather pants. While you are at it grab some denim and chambray too…if we are nodding to the 90’s then let’s go all in.
Bring Some Bling
Adding a metallic Brogue is an easy way to bring some bling! Shades of blush pink, silver & gold will all work seamlessly into your wardrobe. Don’t worry about clashing colours – that’s part of the fun! How about a metallic Brogue with jeans and a tweed blazer to channel an old school menswear vibe or go ‘gritty pretty’ and team with a long skirt with pleats and swing in tulle or satin
Black But Not Basic
Black is the most classic of the Brogues. But I bet these aren’t the pair you wore with your school uniform. Today you’ll find them with bows instead of laces, in shiny patent & perforated with studs! Wear black brogues with some black pants, a chunky knit and a military inspired jacket to take them from the Boardroom and onto the street!
Last But Not Least
In the 80s and 90s a bobby sock was all the rage with your brogues, think Bros and Kylie Minogue. Today the cool kids are all wearing a coloured tight or fishnet sock. These looks can still work for you – but if you prefer a hidden sockette to keep your toes warm and your feet sweat free then check out the cuties available from here. The best bit about this sock purchase is all net proceeds are donated straight back to the Brainchild Foundation to help with support, research, awareness and treatment.
No matter the colour of your Brogues, laces or bows, perforated or patent, platform or heeled I think you’ll find a pair of Brogues to suit your own personal style. Happy shopping and have fun!
