Ever since I started colouring my hair at 15 I’ve been ‘all the colours under the rainbow’ and then some, and I can tell you I always have more fun as a blonde. Being blonde isn’t easy though…or cheap! Blondes need some extra care and attention, a little TLC if you like. Even though I was a hairdresser ‘way back in the day’ I would never ever colour my hair blonde myself because there’s just too much that can go wrong. I ‘throw gold’ like Robin Hood on crack and am prone to some nasty heat banding if the colour overlaps when applied…not pretty.
My hair is fine and thinning at the front, it’s also coarse thanks to chemo and menopause…yeah it’s not just your skin and vagina that dries up in menopause, your hair does too! Oh close your mouth ladies…you know it’s true.
Yesterday I caught up with my hairdresser Mladen from Eternal image at Henley Beach for a root touch up and trim and while I was in the chair I grilled the team for their top tips for caring for blonde hair. Here they are…
. Use a satin pillowcase ( great for your skin too)
.Use heat protecting products especially when using hair straighteners, including a quality hairdryer.
.Book in for regular trims.
.Use a quality colour protectant shampoo.
.Use a purple conditioner, I use ‘Fabuloso’ because I mean…how cool does it sound to say ‘Fabuloso’? Go on, try it.
. Be gentle when brushing and towel drying.
. Use products with ‘anti fade’ qualities.
. Do like I do and have a toner ‘in between’ colours to maintain your colour.
. If you like Vegan products try ‘Pureology’ salon hair care.
. Build up protein and moisture with at home treatments.
.Treat yourself to a monthly ‘in salon’ treatment.
There you have it, do you have any favorite tips to add?
Have you been blonde and did you have more fun?

Any body in menopause know I’m speaking the truth LOL…I love Redken too Lisa.
“sigh” I miss being blonde. I dyed my hair blonde from when I was about 15 till I was 27 and my poor hair just got fried so I decided to let it grow out naturally. I’m really tempted to get a few blonde highlights added, I think blondes do have more fun 🙂
I THINK THEY DO TOO MICHELLE 🙂
