I love a maxi dress, there’s something about the fabric swishing and billowing in the summer breeze. When I popped this one on it was love, hook, line and sinker. I didn’t care that my arms were out loud and proud, I was just loving the vibe that a maxi dress gives me. The colour, embroidery, fringing, shape and length had me dreaming of summer barbeques, a long cool drink and chillin to summer tunes.
I loved it so much I wanted to share more of the Jolie dress in blue (find it HERE) and share some tips on wearing a maxi dress.
TIPS FOR CHOOSING A MAXI DRESS
-choose a v neck to give the illusion of height
-block colours are easy to work with
-but… print or embroidery allows your personality to shine
-scale your print to your body size
-keep the length long. Have your hem graze your toe line, this gives the illusion of height
-have a seamstress on speed dial. You may need to bring the dress in a little or shorten the straps. An inexpensive alteration can pay off big time
-speaking of straps look for adjustable or tie straps, for a more customised look
-tuck, tie or twist your maxi to create multiple looks
WHAT TO TEAM WITH YOUR MAXI DRESS
– if you are going to wear heels, then add a wedge heel for height, don’t forget the pedicure
– a summer slide gives a relaxed vibe to a maxi dress, again don’t forget the pedi 🙂
-use a belt to create shape, match the width of your belt to your proportions
-sling your belt low on the hips or around your waist
-a jacket can visually lengthen or shorten your torso. Team a denim jacket with your maxi for a classic casual look
I know not everyone is a fan of a maxi dress, but I hope these tips help you to find your confidence in one. Do you love blue as much as me? Are you planning on wearing a dress on Christmas day? Let me know in the comments.
