It’s week three of my wellness Wednesday series, which means we’re at the half way mark and while I didn’t kick any major goals I am feeling better. I haven’t made any profound changes, just a whole stack of smaller ones that seem to be doing the trick.
I started drinking green smoothies again…well only four but the point is ‘I started’. I find it incredibly hard to down a cold drink in winter, I just wanna run to the loo all day and let’s face it, cupping my hands around a warm mug feels so much more nurturing. My all time favourite green smoothie recipe is…
1/2 cup apple juice or coconut water
1/2 frozen mango
handful spinach or kale
10 sprigs of mint (roughly)
Pop it all in a blender and whizz until smooth…drink!
Feel free to add any fancy extras you like, this is a good solid basic green smoothie recipe.
I’m week three into Pilates and already my body is feeling stronger and this feeling has me craving more. If someone threw a wad of cash at me I would spend it on a personal trainer…two times a week even!! It seems that the more we exercise the more we ‘want’ to, well when I say ‘we’ I mean ‘me’ but I’d love to think that if you started you would feel the same way.
I’ve also been trying to get more sleep. This means being in bed by 11pm most nights, having a sleep in if my body needs it and creating a ‘sleep ritual’.
I’ve started having my shower around 9:30pm and getting cosy in my pyjamas and cleaning my teeth. Cleaning my teeth means no more eating or drinking which eliminates extra stimulants before bed and extra calories! I’ve also created a ‘sleep’ playlist, just 5 songs on my iPhone that I play. Don’t worry, the phone is in another room and plays through a Bluetooth speaker that turns off once the songs are played. I’ve included a few meditation tracks on my playlist for extra sleepy time value.
I’m eating more cinnamon, even on my vegetables!! Well not on my broccoli or anything weird but on my roasted sweet potato…nope, not weird. My favourite snack is cinnamon on blueberries or slices of apple, pop it in the microwave for an extra dessert like treat.
Cinnamon regulates blood sugars, helps stop sugar cravings and is loaded with antioxidants. Cinnamon also has anti inflammatory properties which helps with my ravaged joints. sometimes it pays to have an open mind and try new things.
Nothing mind blowing this week but I started…started making changes which leads me to make better choices and my mind and body are doing the happy dance. Have you made any small changes this week? What time do you go to bed at night?
