Drop crotch pants can be polarising. There’s those who bloody love them, those who can’t stand them and then there’s those of you are on the fence. You’d like to try them but you’re just not sure. Am I right?
Well let me tell you, I bloody love them! My personal style is relaxed, I love loose clothing (with some shape) and I like fabric that isn’t restrictive. What I love about drop crotch pants is they kinda stick the middle finger up at fashion telling us what we should wear. I wear them for ‘me’.
I don’t give a toss what others think, I love em, I feel good in em and this is what leads to us looking great in something.
Confidence baby!
I’ve had many clients who shook their head at me when I handed them a pair of ‘droppies’. “nuh uh” they say.
That’s until I ask them to open their minds, and they take the hanger from me and nervously head into a change room.
Then they reappear, triumphant and grinning from ear to ear because, comfy AND fun! That’s right ladies, droppies are FUN!
Droppies are also hard to find if you’re a little larger than the norm, but recently I was sent a pair that brought a grin to my face. I loved them and I thought you might too. Judging by all the comments wanting me to post a pic I guess you really want to know more about droppies.
I have been watching fashionistas on the internets wearing Bohemian Traders droppies for a few seasons now, watching and wishing I could get in on the action too. Being a curvier gal I do that a bit.
Check it out..curvy girls CAN wear droppies 🙂
Well, my wishes came true when Bohemian Traders recently contacted me to let me know they had extended the sizing range of some of their pieces., yes…extended the sizing!..including the droppies. That’s right ladies, drop crotch pants to fit plus sized ladies. They also kindly offered to send me some pieces, thanks team, I love happy mail 🙂
Happy mail arrived but I had to wait a little longer because the first pair delivered were too big, something that doesn’t happen often. I started with the XXXL, and then sized down to the XXL (pictured). These *navy droppies are fabulous but on the larger side, so my advice is to size ‘down’.
I actually ordered the plum ones (straight away) and sized down again to an XL. I know I like the style and having two size variations suits my personal style, one will be more relaxed and the other a little more fitted. The relaxed ones will be perfect for some upcoming travel over the next few months.
My other tips for droppies are wiggle the waistband down to sit lower on your hips, or ‘under’ your muffin top 🙂
I like to do this because it gives me a flatter front, the ‘drop’ hangs just the way I like it too.
Once you get the waist right then pay some attention to your ankles. I like to cuff mine OR pull the pants up a little so they hug my calves. This flashes some skin at the ankles and breaks up the heaviness,
Droppies are great for all body shapes including a pear shape (I’m an apple), but the hot tip is get your proportions and balance right. Droppies can be loose and relaxed (not always) so you need to be a bit more structured up top, no super floaty tops or if you do make sure you do a half tuck in the front. Just a little tucked and bloused will give you a better silhouette, and hides a muffin top beautifully, go on, try it.
See how I tucked this shirt in, just a little, and popped the collar (in top photo). The stripes of this shirt (from Target, not current) elongate me, and the white just pops with the blue perfectly. Oh, did I tell you they had pockets? Well, they do and I can’t keep my hands out of them. I also added a tan ankle boot, because orange and blue love each other ♥
Have fun teaming your droppies with a white sneaker, loafer or ankle boot, add a heel for a dressier look.
What do you think, do you like these droppies on me? Would you try them? Let me know if you do 🙂
Til next time,
Jen x
I’m 170cm and a size 18 or Medium in most plus brands.

Oh you look amazing! I so want the plum! I love the Bohemian Traders Droppies, I have the Khaki which are a heavier winter weight fabric, I was afraid of them at first but am now obsessed!
Thanks so much Caitlyn, you look all kinds of amazing in your kahki ones too. I can’t wait for my plum to arrive ?
I’m a bit nervous about trying a pair. I have large thighs, a flat bum and medium bust. I can’t wear a heel as I have a really dodgy right knee. It’s also about what type of top I’d put with them? I’m a 18-22 depending on the brand. I also stress about shoes, I don’t want to look like a nana (even though I am one) but shoes need to be really comfortable for me to be able to get a whole day from them. I live the way they look on you.
Darlene I will be styling these with my plum boots (low heel), white superstar sand shoes and leopard print loafers. The tip is flash some skin at the ankle and keep the top relaxed bit not too relaxed. Try a tee or a blouse but do a little tuck. I would go the XXL maybe the XL. Check the returns policy, if they aren’t the right fit it’s best to send them back and get the right fit. X
Thanks Jenni. I bought myself a pair of ankle boots with a low heel from Ziera for winter so maybe I’ll give the pants a try. Is it a draw string waist?
Oh Ziera boots are sooo comfy:-) Pants have elastic waist with a drawstring Darlene x
You look fantastic Jen, I think I am brave enough to try some now 🙂
That’s great news Christina ? Just remember to size down. ?
I love them on you Jen and I’m a big fan anything that is stylish and comfortable has my name on it Xx
Stylish AND comfy is a match made in style heaven Lisa x
You look great as always. I’m on the fence, love them others but being short chunky legs, curvy and 55 just not sure. They don’t look as ‘droppie’ on you as some others I have seen, which I like. Love the colours x
My leopard print ones are more droppie Kathryn. It’s ok to be on the fence, let me know if you take the plunge ?
You look so good! Very stylish and chic! I’m sitting on the fence personally. But would be great for traveling though.
Thanks Maggie, it’s ok to stay on the fence. These will be packed next week when I’m on the road with Mercer Supercycle.
You look all kinds of awesome…I never doubted it for a second though.
No turning back now Jen, hooked just like the rest of us 😉 xxx
Thanks Bev, I love these pics my son took of me in these droppies! I have my eye on several dresses but it might have to wait until after our Bali holiday. might 🙂
My plum ones are ordered & on the way. Can’t wait for them to arrive so I can “experiment”. Thanks for the advice on how to wear them ???
Exciting! Have fun Kim ?
I’m terrified of wearing these I have to admit – but I love your tips on how to wear them. I might have to head on over to BT and check them out!
Sammie try them, do it with an open mind and have fun with fashion. I bet you love em xx
Droppies tend to look pretty relaxed and casj but I love how you’ve styled these up with the sharp shirt for a dressier look. I just don’t know how I’d go with them, I should probs try them on at some stage. I think I prefer the less dropular look of this style rather than going the full Hammer Pant!
I just love your language Beth? You should give them a try for sure xx
I must say I’m a little afraid of them as I’m a bit short, and my hips and thighs are significantly wider than than the rest of my legs and my top half, so I wonder if they’ll make me look shorter and wider! I’d love to try some on to see though – so any tips on what shops have them in plus sizes? Sadly I only have access to Canberra for shopping in person and online shops, but online shops need to have a full refund returns policy in case I really don’t like them.
Try them with a heel Tracy ?
