Over the weekend we had two scorcher days above 40 degrees, in case you have never experienced that kinda heat it’s damn hot!. When you walk outside it feels like your lungs will explode. The air is dry and I often feel like I will combust…because, menopause hot flushes and all. Guess what else happens?
Uh uh, it took me by surprise but I should have known better. Sweltering heat and dress wearing can lead to ‘chub rub’ and I had a little case of it over the weekend. You know, when chubby legs rub together so furiously you’re left with a nice friction burn/heat rash.
Oh sure those ‘thigh gap’ gals think they’re onto something and in extreme heat that thigh gap may be handy.
Personally I’m not interested in thigh gap because I like my
cake balanced life too much. Hey, I can give you a few tips that will have your ‘chub rub’ sorted and you can eat your ice cream AND enjoy summer. Here we go 🙂
+Prune your ‘lady garden’. You know what I’m talking about, snip, wax or whatever it is that’s your preferred method, just get those strays tidy. Those strays can spring free from your daks and along with a little chub rub cause a whole lotta ouch!
+3B cream. Look I don’t wanna know what’s in this tube, I’m pretty sure it’s not a hippy dippy happy earth kinda cream, but when you’re desperate this cream is the shizz. Slather it on and it will keep your thighs dry…perfect if you live in high humidity areas.
+Fabric composition matters. We all know most (not all) man made fabrics can leave you feeling like you’re sweltering under a tarp so if you suffer with the heat choose fabrics that breathe. Try a dress in linen, bamboo, cotton, silk and rayon.
+Underwear that works. Try wearing quality underwear made from bamboo or cotton. Look for a finer leg seam or invisible seam. A cotton gusset is always a good idea.
+Wear shorts under your dresses. Not proper shorts, more like bike pant style. There’s lots of styles readily available these days so you don’t have to resort to ‘actual’ bike shorts. Specifically designed pants have invisible leg lines and some incorporate smoothing panels…winning! Try these Thigh Society shorts, Sonsee anti chafe shorts, Bella Bodies ones or TS14+ ‘Easy Breezy short’.
+Bandelettes. I won’t lie, I’ve only ‘heard’ about these but haven’t tried them. Sexy lace bands held in place with silicon backing strips. Have you used them?
So how can you soothe your thighs when ‘chub rub’ hits? Look, you can crank up the air con in the car and part your thighs for some cooling relief (hands up who has done this) but there’s a few other options too.
+First, keep the area clean and dry.
+A few drops of quality peppermint oil (in a carrier oil) or an Aloe Vera spray can help remove the heat from the chafe.
+ Try a heavy and healing cream or balm, personally I love Rescue Balm. It’s organic, works wonders and is soothing.
We all like a loose skirt or dress in summer but when the temperature rises and chub rub hits it can take the fun out of fashion, I hope these tips help.
Got any tried and tested tips?
