Do you know what I love? I love ‘chambray’. I’ve been crushing on the soft blue fabric since 1986 and I’ve had chambray shirts hanging in my wardrobe ever since. I’m even partial to Tencel. Not fussy!
OK, I confess. I currently have six chambray shirts in my wardrobe, two are shirt dresses which is even better because I can also wear them as a vest and that’s more opportunities to wear chambray! Winning!
But, there’s more to a good chambray shirt than just a basic shirt.
Personally, I like minimal pockets, a curved hem and a good fit…which as a curvy girl is sometimes hard to find.
I also like a variation in colour because depending on its hue, this humble shirt has a way of adding swagger to your outfit.
From putting a casual spin on a dressy outfit, making your jeans shine with a little double denim action or pairing perfectly with some white street sneakers and stripes, a chambray shirt will fast become your Bestie.
For me, a chambray shirt feels like ‘home’. I’m in my comfort zone when chambray is on my back (or around my waist).
The good news is, chambray is always on trend, which means it’s pretty easy to find! I’ve bundled up a few I’ve found just for you!
Levi’s Plus Western Shirt (1-3), Harlow Jean Genie Denim Shirt (XS-XL), Torrid Taylor Shirt (M-6X)
Embody Suki Vintage Blue Linen Shirt (8-20), Dressing Room Casual Star Shirt (12-24), Forever New Lola Denim Utility Shirt (8-16)
Levi’s Curve Western Shirt (XL-XXXL), Jeans West Kea Tencel Shirt (8-16), Just Jeans Kylie Relaxed Lyocell Shirt (6-16)
Moki Oversized Denim Shirt (XXS-XXL), Ezibuy Capture Chambray Shirt (8-22), Sportscraft Alina Denim Shirt (6-18)
A great chambray shirt is super versatile. I like to wear them as a jacket, open over a tee or dress and my favourite way to wear them is slung on my hips and tied around my waist, especially if I’m having a ‘fat’ day…even over my knickers!
I own sleeveless chambray, dip dyed chambray, embellished chambray, light, dark, denim and even frayed.
I can’t get enough. Obviously!
Katies Pocket Front Lyocell Shirt (10-18), Everlane Relaxed Jean Shirt (00-16), Atmos&Here Hannah Chambray Shirt (18-26)
Tell me, do you own a chambray shirt? How many are in your wardrobe?
Do you know I have never had a chambray shirt. Ever. Where have I been? After reading your post, I may well have to recitify this situation immediately!
Sammy run, don’t walk straight to Target and grab one! I swear you’ll be hooked once you try one ?
No Jen don’t have any but would love to get some love the way you style them I need you as my personal stylist 🙂 you make everything look so good
I’ve just purchased one from Suzanne Grae and am yet to wear it. Jen, thanks for the many ideas, xx
Great work Sue? Have fun with your new shirt x
My name is Rebecca and I too have six chambray shirts… One jacket and three dresses…. I have them from Mink, ASOS, Talbots, old navy, H&M, Lucky Brand Jeans and Gap. I can’t say no to them. I have light and dark ones, grandpa style, short and long sleeve, fitted and loose fit. I wear them with pencil skirts and business trousers to work, over dresses and with jeans. I dress them up and dress them down and just love them. They all serve a Purpose. My current regret is not buying a chambray shirt dress from H&M and now it’s sold out ?
We can totally be besties Bec❤️ Chambray besties is a ‘thing’ right??
Yep! Love them I have a dark blue chambray, light blue and a light blue dress with long sleeves from Target. Love them dress them up or down and a playful comfy look appears. Love your blog always great reading.?
Thanks Maggie, and with two dresses you’re doing well 🙂
I haven’t owned a chambray shirt since 1993 but I do have a chambray dress! It took me a while to accept it was back but I’ve dealt with it now. I’m just waiting for the jewel-toned chenille knits next . . . and I agree with not too much pockety action on shirts – no good for busty girls.
OMG, chenille knits…the great unraveller 🙂
Oh I do love a chambray anything! I currently have three dresses, two pairs of shorts and one pair of pants. The only reason I don’t have a shirt is because of the double denim factor.
Karin you could absolutely rock double denim?
