Living in the South of Australia I enjoy all four seasons throughout the year, including Winter and just like Jon Snow says…”Winter is coming”. The last few weeks we have been enjoying glorious Autumn sunshine but there’s been the odd day where the chill factor has been high and this was a good reminder to sort my wardrobe and get my Winter coats out.
Well, I went to the wardrobe and it turns out I’d donated a few coats! Oh well, good excuse for a little shop hey 🙂 After hitting the stores and yes even purchasing a few Winter coats I thought I’d compile a list of some of my favourite current styles for you too. You’re welcome.
New Winter coats I’m wearing
While I have several ‘all weather jackets’ and ‘puffer vests’ my wardrobe was lacking in the coats department so I remedied that pronto. Here’s what I’ve added to my wardrobe lately…
City Chic Simple Elegance coat sizes XS-XL (I’m in S)
With its high rounded collarless neckline, gold zip features, pockets and knee length this jacket ticked lots of boxes for me. It’s classic, simple with a nod to mod…me likey 🙂
Taking Shape Inner Beauty Cape sizes 16-24 (I’m in 16)
Now while it’s not really a winter coat this cape makes the list. Perfect for our Northern sistas…or menopausal sistas 🙂 I love the cape style for ease of movement, no tight arm holes and enough coverage to keep me warm but not furnace like. Oh, this one is currently on sale too!
Katies Navy Military Coat sizes 18-20 (maybe extra sizes instore) (I’m in 20)
This Winter coat is lined with pocket flaps, military styling and double breasted styling. A little pleather trim brings it from the 80’s to present day in style.
Creswick Wool Stellar grey Coat sizes 12-20 (I’m in 20)
A great Aussie company making quality wool products including Winter coats. This coat is Cosy and stylish featuring decorative button cuff detail on sleeves, side pockets and button down front. I’m loving the softer, more rounded collar too.
Other Winter coats I’m loving that you might love too
Faye Black coat in Merlot sizes 8-18
Leopard print coat sizes 18-26
Monochrome check coat sizes 8-20
Trenery Wool Twill Duffle Coat sizes XXS-L
Some tips for coat lengths
Choosing the right length Winter coat can be tricky so I have a few tips for you.
-If your coat sits above the knee then your skirt should be no longer than your coat.
-If your coat is knee length or longer then your skirt length doesn’t matter.
-a longer coat with pants will look dressier while a shorter one will lend itself to a more casual feel.
-a coat that falls mid thigh is universally flattering.
-to lengthen your leg shorten your coat
How is your Winter wardrobe looking, need a coat? Do you have a favourite amongst the ones I have shown you here?
Til next time,
Jen x

They are all equally nice,my personal preference are Inner Beauty Cape so practical and the Stella grey coat. Perfect as it covers my butt. Brrrr we are going into winter.??
The cape is a winner Maggie
Hi Jen, I have very large arms (tuck shop) and have great difficulty finding things to fit. They are either too tight around the arm or they fit my arms but I look like a block. Any ideas? You always look amazing. X
Hi Jodie I have large upper arms and lymphedema on one arm. I look for some ponti panels for stretch. The cape style is also good
I’m an 80’s girl at heart – love the Katies military coat. Will have to see if 20 is ok. Don’t mind the City Chic one either – I too live s bid to mod!!
They both have a bit of 80’s to them, hope you find one you love x
Omg !!! Number 4 a duffle coat……
Should of kept mine from high school , except it was “BROWN” … They say, if you keep it long enough …. It will come back in fashion !!
