If you’re like me and your style is a bit ‘sporty rock chic relaxed vibe’ then you’re probably on the hunt for a great plaid shirt. Plaid and tartan will add that little bit of ‘grunge’ to your outfit, of course what you team with your plaid shirt and how you add attitude will determine the level of grunge.
Personally I like a plaid shirt where white is the predominant colour, it adds a fresher, sportier edge and sets off the white in my eyes. Don’t get me wrong I love the look of a darker check but the white is what works best on me. So, my advice is try a few colour variations on.
To wear a plaid shirt and not look fully bogan takes a little planning.
Adding the check to a dressier garment, a little lace, tulle or a garment with a luxe fabric is what will take your plaid shirt from bogan to bombshell.
You could also try these tips…
♦ Tie it around your waist (slung a little lower on your hips),or thread it through the belt loops of your jeans.
♦ Layer it under a knit with the cuffs, collar and tails peeking out.
♦ Rock it with leather or pleather or team it with a chambray shirt or denim jacket.
♦ Button your plaid shirt all the way up and fold the collar over a big blingy statement necklace for a mix of ‘pretty hard.
♦ Juxtapose prints and team your plaid shirt with leopard print shoes.
♦ Wear it under a blazer or wear it open and long like a jacket.
♦ Pop a puffer vest over the top and add jeans and sneakers for cold winter mornings spent at kids sporting events, you could even add a statement tee underneath and have three layers 🙂
